I've been looking to lift my 1996 tacoma for a while and have done countless hours of research and can't decide what to do. I'm not looking to spend more than 1100. I've been thinking about 5100s with 883 springs and dakar leafs but I'm worried it might be to stiff. Ive looked at an ome complete loft but I've heard the shock design makes them fail? Any info helps Thanks.

883s are the stiff ones for use with winch + bumper

Budget of <1100 you're in the right place with 5100s + OME + whatever leafs

Oh ok I was planning one one in the future should have put that in there but I've seen that the 881s only give like 1.75 of lift? And do they make 882s anymore?

You should get 2.5 from 881s when paired with 5100s on the lowest setting. You can always bump up the retainer one peg to get an extra half inch of you need it since you have 4x4. Read this if you haven't already: https://www.bilsteinlifts.com/shop/...-2004-toyota-tacoma-1996-2002-toyota-4runner/

thank you I've read that but I've just seen on this forum that once the coils settled it was under 2.

Any reason you need exactly 3"? Anyone talking about a 3 inch lift on these trucks is likely running this combo, or a midtravel. If you're planning on adding weight later go with the 883s.
I didn't notice any settling on my 881s, but again, if height is that important the 5100s are adjustable at the expense of preload.

No no reason in particular I'm not stuck on 3 just around 2.5 is ideal. 1.75 doest seem like enough and I don't want to put top plate spacers on it. I'm not dead set on 5100s either if there's any other combos u know of I'd like to hear them. Thanks

3" Toytec spacers, Bilstein 5100s in the back with add a leaf and overloads removed.
Throw in the 10mm spacer and you should be at 3. Mine seems to be

OME and Rancho, but I rarely see them discussed.

Just avoid 880s. Sounds like 883s are for you, but ya it'll be stiff until you add that weight. The rear is going to require new bumpstops if you go for the matching lift.
Dakars should pair well. Don't forget your brake proportioning valve relocation kit.

@YotaOverAll might be a dumb question what coils are you running?

@YotaOverAll how does yours handle with the billies and ome seteup I've heard of people saying not to combine the 2. I'm 14 and am saving up a decent amount of money for this so I might ask alot of questions because I want it to be right lol.

As long as you keep the shocks at the lowest setting you’ll be fine. I had 3” spacers before this setup so this is a dream compared to that lol

^ Was just going to chime in about the proportioning valve kit, you beat me to it. I've heard great things about this kit. Extended rear brake line is a good idea too, Wheeler's makes a nice one.
