I searched and couldn't find a good answer; getting ready to order a '16:

Between the Predator, Tube, and Running Boards (the OEM choices)...which one of the three sticks out the most from vehicle and would provide the best door-ding protection?

Yes I know sliders are best for off road, yes I know I can buy something else cheaper/bigger from elsewhere.

I have small side steps on my jeep and they have been GREAT for preventing dings...but they stick out a solid 3" more than the body (and are now crushed from rock impacts, but whatever).

none. the way the front doors are bowed and rear doors are arched on cars and especially suv's, they completely miss any of the solutions. go with what you are happy with.

if you want protection, park out in the boonies and then go another 2 rows farther out.

    that's what I do.

here is a good example. if you think your predator, bump out sliders, running boards or tube step is going to stop you from getting a ding/scratch/etc your sadly mistaken.

the top of that arch will hit your vehicle way before the bottom even comes close to your lower protection.

I have the OEM running boards on mine and it's probably the best protection you are going to get. They stick our a few inches beyond the door. i posted pix in one of the other threads.

Thanks all! I much appreciate the photos too. I know I can't prevent everything but I've seen with my Jeep that side steps do cut down on some impacts. My assumption was just that one of the three options probably sticks out more than the others, etc. but of course nowhere provides the width of the piece outward from the mounts.

which ones are you considering the running boards? the plastic ones? (i don't know how far those stick out)

there are also the deezee kind, that come in black, silver and chrome, those don't stick out as far as the iron cross ones

the chrome ones def stick out more

All 3 of the OEM- tube (black or chrome), running boards, or the predators. Basically whatever sticks out more.

Here's my nerf bars from N-fab - I don't think a car is going to hit my door. I pretty much park way out as far as I can from the rest of the folks in parking lots tho. That and the steps stick out as well as my tires... someone hitting my truck with a door would have to really work hard at it, probably more likely to get keyed before a door ding. My karma is good so I'm not real worried about that.WP_20151112_006.jpg
