I've searched around and didn't see any similar issues but want to reach out and check to see options. I have a 2003 Tacoma Pre-Runner with 3.4L V6 engine with one exhaust valve stuck open on #1. Let me give you the history: The vehicle was in a rollover and totaled out. However it still started and ran strong after incident. I drove it a few times after the accident with no issues (other then bodywork). However, the truck ended up sitting almost 1.5 years for bodywork due to medical issues. Now the body work is done, but it runs extremely poor. The check engine light flashes and gives me code for misfire on #1 P0301. I started checking the basics fuel and spark, everything was working correctly, even swapped coils, and injectors and misfire stayed at #1. I had already drain the tank, and put fresh gas due to the age. I finally checked compression and had 0 PSI on #1. I then checked the timing, and it was still correct, I performed a leakdown test, and air was blowing out exhaust. Pulled the valve cover and found the front exhaust valve is stuck down (see pic).
Just seeing if there are any known issues with this, is it possible to stick after sitting for so long, I'm not sure what would have caused it to bend since it drove fine 1.5 years ago, and has only been sitting since then. is there any other options other then pulling the whole head?

    Thanks for the help,
    Dan

If you have a long brass or aluminum drift pin give that bucket a tap. Worst case, pull the cam and see what’s up... I can’t imagine the valve bending while it sat parked...

Could possibly be a worn valve guide

This ^^^, pour some oil over it first. You might even be able to do it without pulling the cam if it is just stuck, maybe if it didn't get oil it could stick.
You may want to pull the cam off and have a closer look for any scratches or damage so you can remove it before it ends up in the engine.

It could be a bent valve, something foreign in the exhaust holding the valve open, or even a broken valve seat.
sometimes the valve seats break and come off and the broken valve seat ring wedges the valve open (had that happen on a 2uz where mechanic forgot to put a shim back in on that valve).
If you can look through the exhaust runner on that side you could see if there is some foreign object in there, or if you bought one of those little mirror cameras on black friday stick it down the plug tube and look around.

I would still try giving it a tap first from on top, cause if its bent or the valve seat is broken, it wont matter anyways. if something is lodged in there it may dislodge from a good tap.

there are many endoscopes for under $30 out there... they are good enough to snake down the spark plug hole and with the angeled mirror attachment on them you can see if the seat has dropped or there is something holding the valve open. Well worth the few$ and few minutes of time.
If it is truly stuck, like mentioned above, a non ferrous drift and a tap on the shim just might free it up... do this with the piston out of the way. Run her for a bit after, you really have nothing to loose at this point. Either the head has to come off or not.

This just might turn into one of those stories where she goes 300k miles after the smack with a hammer!

how did this fix go? My 04' 2.7L Taco just sat for 5 months and now I'm seeing symptoms of a bad exhaust or intake valve. I am getting a lot of air blowing back out through the intake and a cuffing sound. It also has tiny revs of 20-50rpm while sitting at idle. I did a compression test and got 170-180 across the board, with all the plugs out. I also looked pretty hard for vac leaks, just replaced the PCV valve and IAC valve, replaced the sparkplugs and cleaned up the throttle body real nice. anyone have any other ideas?

I did run the old gas through her, it had seafoam added to it. Maybe a couple cans in my next fuel up and cross my fingers.

are there any other methods to target the intake valves with a cleaner?

might try sea foam right in the the intake thru a vac line. Not sure on the 4cyl which one would work best.
Or use marvel mystery oil and do the same thing.

Ended up cleaning up my old IAC and reinstalling it. The puffing has stopped and the duralast garbage is on its way back to Autozone!

I have similar problem with my 2002 tacoma with almost 90k miles. One of my exhaust valves on #4 stuck open after it sat for about 6 months. Ran flawless when I parked it, but when I went to start #4 was misfiring. Had new oil.

Inspected with borescope and clearly see one of the two valves stuck open. Pushed a bunch of rope in the cylinder and rotated the crank a little to see if the valve budged, which could let me know if the spring was broke but the valve didn't budge.

Just removed valve cover and can see the bucket is recessed. Poured about a tablespoon of marvels mystery oil over the bucket but no miracles so far. I am going to purchase some brass punches to see if the tapping method works, but I am not sure how much motivation I should apply. With the cam shaft installed, there isn't much room to place a punch on the bucket so I'll likely tap toward the perimeter of the bucket.

    Advice much appreciated!

    Hmmm...
You coulds give it a fairly good tap-tap with a brass drift punch and hammer. Next thing is pull cams. But that combustion camber looks suspicious. Any chance someone put suger in your tank? Why did you park it?

No chance. Gas cap is locked and parked in garage. Debris likely came from exhaust side.
