3.4 spark plugs.... Dual vs single electrodes

    I'm about to buy spark plugs for my 3.4. what's everyone running? The reason I ask is currently there are single electrode plugs in the engine, but right on the timing cover, just above the left cam sprocket is a sticker specifically stating dual electrodes only, no single.

    What's the deal? My friend just put single electrode iridium plugs in his 04 3.4 and it runs just fine...

    I used regular NGK copper plugs (single electrode) for a few hundred miles in mine at one point. I KNEW going into it that Toyota recommends the dual electrode plugs but everyone in town that day had low on hand qty of the correct plugs.

    Seemed like it had a little more hesitation than normal but that could've been psychological....

    I replaced those plugs the next week for the correct NGK plug....that's all I've put back in it...

    Likely psychological but maybe not....


    FWIW the correct plug is cheaper than an Iridium plug and they last plenty long. Just my .02

    My truck ran ok with platinum plugs for awhile then developed at bad miss. I swapped to Ngk dual ground plugs and Ngk wires and it runs better than ever now.

    there is newer technology out now than when the motor was introduced and the single tips should run just fine. The ignition system on the 3.4 because of the ignition system... the plugs are fired twice per 4 stroke cycle.

    HBS leveling kit, 31x10.50 mudders, header/imco exhaust, rear billies, LR ucas, home brewed onboard air, cb radio
    There will be absolutely no performance difference between dual ground and single ground plugs. The laws of electricity don't change with how many ground straps you have. The only reason for dual grounds is longer life with the waste spark ignition on these engines, simply from having twice the surface area to wear out.
