Hey guys, following up my last thread, ended up finding coolant in cylinders 3 and 6, with a burnt exhaust valve on cylinder 6. Tore everything down, heads to machine shop, mound a crack on one of the heads, so one head machined, one head replaced. Got everything back together, Toyota head gaskets. New timing belt, water pump etc. This is how she is running.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-Ci58C-Bxs
Double checked all of my timing marks, everything is lined up correctly. Codes show P0300 P0302 and P0306. Pulled the spark plug boots on 2 and 6 while running, no difference. Pulled it on 4 and the engine sputters. Any ideas? As far as I know, I have checked multiple times but didn't miss any electrical or vacuum connections.
    Thanks guys.

Yes wires and coils installed correctly. Brand new plugs, checked the gap. That was my initial thought, but they are correct, and the wires have about 500 miles on them. Coils are good too, I switched them around anyways but nothing changed. I get only P0302 and P0306 when idling, but all the other cylinders will show if I hold the RPMs around 3k.

Check basics spark, fuel and compression in those two cylinders. Sounds like a dead miss.

Do you have a FSM? Here is the listed "trouble areas" for misfire codes.
    Open or short engine wire
    Connector connection
    Vacuum hose connection
    Ignition system
    Injector
    Fuel pressure
    Mass air flow meter
    Engine coolant temp. sensor
    Compression pressure
    Valve clearance
    Valve timing
    ECM

You need to verify that all cylinders are getting fuel and spark. If they all check out then it must be timing related.
What do the plugs look like? Any of them look lean?

Got spark, all connectors are good, all vaccuum lines good. Mass air flow sensor is good, and I need a way to check fuel. With a miss like that I am starting to think that's the machine shop messed up on the valve adjust.

It happens, unfortunately. I got a rebuilt head from a machine shop. Valves weren't adjusted, the threads on studs were chewed up and metal shavings were left in the bearing bolt holes--not high quality work. I checked all these before installing and had to reshim the valves after installing.

So, check your valve clearances. They'd have to be way out of spec to make those sounds.

I'm not familiar with the V6. Is there any way to install the head gasket backwards so the oil passage is blocked?

Hey guys got it all figured out. Two of the cam bearing cap bolts were completely stripped out, so the camshaft was jumping up and down. Got under the valve cover and half of the bolts had rattled loose. I was able to chase the threads and use just a bit longer bolts with some blue loctite. Got everything back together and she is purring like a kitten.
Thank you all for your input!

I'm glad you figured it out. Do you think the threads were messed up or the bolts loosened and then damaged the threads? Maybe the bad threads affected the torque when you tightened them?

I am guessing that the bolts might have loosened, I do not remember anything weird happening when everything was being torqued down. At this point I have put some miles on it and no noise so far!
