I put 2nd gen wheels on my 2004 DCPR. I also put P245/75R16s on it at the same time, I experience absolutely no rubbing, but think it would look better with a full set of spacers. I can't decide if 3/4", 1" or something thicker would look better.

I measured the inset from the flare edge using a straight edge and it is 1 1/4" approximately from the flare edge to the tire.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

I think that upping the tire width would help you instead. Wheel spacers arent the safest option out there. My 265/70/16's fill the wheel well quite nicely.

I'd say go for a 1" wheel spacer then maybe a size wider on the next tires so they are just at or a little beyond the flare. I like it when they are just a little outta the flares/fender

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
I may be wrong but I dont think 3/4 inch spacers will work. IIRC, your studs will stick out too far. I think 1" is about the thinnest you can go.

Bora makes a 3/4" specifically for the Toyota. These are the size I will run from now on, my MPG went up by 3 full miles in town.

I agree the 265 tire looks better, but it is really not that much wider, 10.4" vs 9.6" for the 245.

The original offset was 15, these wheels are 30. Backspacing of 4.6" for the original wheel and 5.2" for these.

This is a DD. It also sees long trips of 4+ hrs to the lease and farm during hunting season, sometimes 2-3 times a week.

I plan on doing the Tundra brake mod in the near future.

I'm going with a set of 3/4 spacers from Bora, on the front when you factor in the thickness of the rotor no triming of the studs is needed and on the back it looks like about 1/4" needs to be cut or ground off. Remember to chase the threads clean after doing it though.

The backing plate is what you are trimming?

Old topic but I used the search engine and here I am.

I have a spec question. I read that guys with 1.25" spacers need longer front wheel studs. I can't find that issue with 1" on the web. Do you know if longer wheel studs are needed for a 12' Tacoma in the front with a 1" spacer??

I'm running 1.25" with stock studs on my 2001, don't know how 1st and 2nd gen stud lengths compare though

This topic has been debated in every car forum thousands of times. Wider tires aren't an alternative for widening your stance, especially because it gets tighter inside the wheel well and generally people considering wheel spacers are having clearance issues. Your options are new wheels with a different offset or wheel spacers, both of which put more stress on your bearings than would a stock setup.

My logic on the op's question was he was going for the "look" of a wider meaner stance. I always figured skinny tires pushed out further are still skinny tires. Put wider meats on there and that will definitely change the rig's attitude I think.

If I wanted wider tires, I would have left the original size on it. The question wasn't related to tire size, it was the fact the Gen 2 wheels have less offset and are tucked in further than the original Gen 1 wheels.

Gen 2 wheels have more backspacing so a spacer that adjusts that to be the same as the original Gen 1 wheels would be in order.
