Well my beautiful mint condition low mileage 2010 was T-Boned yesterday by a lady running a stop sign. Everyone was ok but disappointed that my truck looks to be totaled.

Was a ‘10 TRD Sport 2WD. Seems like there’s more 4WD models around. Has anyone switched one way or another? Regret doing not doing? Mostly FL driving and going in the beach surfing. I know 2WD works usually without a problem but just wondering.

Looks like I will be coming over to the 3rd gen forums soon.

Better payload and MPG with 2WD. Cheaper too. 4WD if you care about going off-road or can get a decent price for it.

    Oh look, another mod....

This. If you aren't going to do any wheelin' at all, get the 2wd model. Your wallet will thank you when you're gassing up. The 2whl drive with the street tires averages 23 - 25MPG.

I'm in FL also and opted for the 4x2 Sport. It was cheaper and had all the packages I wanted. When I lived in Vermont I only bought 4x4s because of winter and the poorly maintained dirt roads (and mud season). Here in FL I really didn't see the need to pay extra for a feature I will rarely if ever use. Some people say it's better to have it and not need it, but to me it was just more that could fail and wasn't worth the extra $3k to me. I don't go anywhere auto LSD can't get me out of.

One differentiating factor in the 2WD vs. 4WD debate, at least for the TRD Sport, is the availability of a manual transmission; the 2WD model need not apply as no manual is available without 4WD.

FL 2WD Sport here….FL is flat, and if you’re staying on the road or simply beach driving, you will have no problems and be happier at the gas station. I’ve done beach driving and I have no problems. The 2wd is more than capable for most than they realize. If anything, get a more capable tire than the sport comes with and it’ll handle 98% of conditions you will find around here

A 2WD manual Sport would be a blast to drive. :burnrubber: Too bad the days of the real mini trucks are gone.

I am normally a diehard 4WD advocate, but that is here in the Midwest with snow, hills, mud, sand, creeks, etc etc.
    In FL? I'd be rocking a 2WD!

Lol so true. We had the same situation when we bought my wife’s Kia Sorrento Hybrid. Offered local dealer a fair price. They said “I dare you to find better “. Next day we bought the exact car we wanted in Columbus OH. With the first class ticket on points and gas home we still saved $2k. ‍

I went from 4WD to 2WD, and I'd probably make the same choice again. I take the 2WD Sport harder and farther off road than I ever did with the old 4WD. In my travels there have been maybe two or three spots where I turned around early and bailed. But for the better mileage and fewer things to break, its very well worth it. Its still a very capable truck if you know how to drive it.

Not that this will help @motopilot much, but a friend of mine was looking at Tacomas in the Palm Springs area and asked me to help him browse through the various available trucks from the four or five dealerships in his area; I was stunned by the dozens of TRD Sport 2WD models they had sitting on their lots; all at or slightly below MSRP and none with any add-on stuff.

Honestly that’s a little far. But l will be checking out everywhere up and down the east coast. Nice part is I can wait if needed. Would be a fun drive back from PSP though.

I’m going to play devils advocate for the 4 wheel drive, I’m in central Florida also, and if you do go off road, the sand will get you. Sand and mud are our only real terrain, and they both suck in 2 wheel drive.

I have and always had 4wd trucks for the reason of living up here in the Great North. No explanation needed. Just saying

i do drive a 2wd sport. i use it mostly to go to work and is very handy for tailgate. have not done any off road. but if i decide to do it probably gonna go with some 4x4 friends to get me unstuck till we reach the camping site.

btw so glad to see a lot of 2wd Sports owners. !
