I have a 2010 TRD Tacoma, Short from spending on a 4wd conversions or selling my truck for a 4x4 version, what mods or upgrades can I do to get my truck to its optimal potential for off road?

I don't do very much off road in the first place, but from time to time I do travel over to Mexico and I have encountered my share of terrain roads, San dunes, steep dirt hills and crossing roads like rivers on raining seasons.

Truthfully, I contemplated on a winch for preventative measures if I ever got stuck, but theres got to be more I can do right?

    2010 Tacoma, sold...

    agreed.

I bet you most guys who 'off road' could get most places with a locked rear, good tires, and some slow patient driving (in 2wd)

I think my truck has LSD since its a 2010 TRD Sport, should the locker go in the front or rear?
Sorry for the noob question the locker topic is new to me but so far seems like ARB would be the way to go based on my quick research.

You should already have a way to get yourself unstuck. Winches are cool and all, but most times you can get unstuck with a hi-lift and a couple sand boards. (Maxtrax)

#1 would be well tuned long travel suspension.

#2 A locker and better tires.

#3 roll cage, because at this point you are going scary fast

    #4 better axle

#5 More motor. Supercharger, turbo, etc.

A locker only goes on a powered axle. You would want it for the rear.

Spend quite a bit of time in Baja....good tires, suspension, and then a locker in that order. Lots of 2wd go fast rigs in Baja.....then again, before any of the above, the driver makes all the difference in the world! I have an FJ 40 and the Rubicon is in my backyard....have ARB's front & rear on the 40 and rarely use them....good tires and suspension do wonders in most places.
