Hey y'all. New to the Tacomaworld forum so bare with me here.

Wanted to showcase my 2019 Tacoma SR5 2WD build so far. I know 2wds are given a lot of hate, but I wanted to show those who either have or are considering buying a 2wd Tacoma that they still get the job done and can have some fun, even if it's not a 4x4.

I got this truck in January of 2022, and kept it completely stock until December. The first thing I did was the very common modifications 3rd gen guys tend to do by adding the "heritage grill" and adding a Tanneu cover. It wasn't until July of 2023 that I finally did some actual modifications.

I'd been introduced to offroading in February of 2023 (by a bunch of guys with rock crawlers), and obviously, since I was 2wd and completely stock I didn't get very far. But in July I invested in BFgoodrich K02s 285, 33" tires, and a 3" Rough Country lift both front and rear. I took it back to Hollister's offroad park after that and man did it make a difference.

In the trips I'd gone back after upgrading my truck, I only got stuck once and was able to hit a bunch of different obstacles. I obviously can't crawl the truck, but I can definitely wheel.

All in all, if you're bummed about not owning a 4x4, make the most out of what you have and you'll still have fun. I've been able to hit 90% of the stuff my friends do. But trust me, if you have the opportunity, pick up a 4x4. I'll drop some pics below of my truck. Thanks for reading. This is great, thanks for sharing. Before I got my ‘23 OR 4x4, I was thinking really hard about the 4x2 OR because it has a locking read diff. I felt that for my needs, that would work for 95% of what I will be doing.

If I had gotten that 4x2, I’d probably get lower gears, tires, a lift and maybe upgrade to a rear locker and call it a day.

I used to offroad my 2wd alot. You can get pretty far but man sometimes you just need 4x4. Mud, sand, ice, snow, loose rocks on inclines are a 2wds worst enemy

Nothing wrong with 2WD if you don’t need 4x4. The 2024 TRD PreRunner only comes in 2WD.

Great looking truck and Pre-runners are definitely a thing. Heck, Toyota called the 2wds that for a while. I'm not sure when and why that went away, or according to TA2016 they are back or never left, either way, thanks for the post.

Thanks so much. I usually go to Hollister SVRA's 4x4 area to offroad, or any dirt trail I can find. I do use the Auto-LSD to get a tad more power. It definitely helps, its kinda half-ass but it has worked wonders in different situations.

I’ve learned that most 4x4 required roads in California mean high clearance good tires and not getting stuck because you chose the wrong path.

Right on! No doubt your 2wd has earned its stripes more than 95% of these "off road" 4x4s with all the fancy ornaments strapped on their rack I see driving around.
    Respect

Welcome to TW and owning a 2wd... enter here and search for Cleghorn and big bear.oh, and bee canyon.
My 2wd has out done many others in 4x4s. The issue is momentum is your friend until it isn't. 2wd can go down pretty much everything, it's getting up that's the problem.:hattip:

Thanks so much! I haven't thought of that yet. I have been thinking of investing a locker. Just not sure if its worth the money.

Great looking truck man. I have a 2wd '18 and the shops look at me sideways when they see its not a 4x4. My truck sees a ton of gravel and dirt roads but I've never used it or the 2nd gen I had before for anything more so when I was offered a good deal on a 2wd I jumped on it.

Thats awesome man, 2wds can still get by! Took a quick look at your profile picture and that's exactly how my truck looked when I first got it. Thanks for commenting!

I'm in need to update my pic but I keep doing 'one more thing' to my truck lol.

I have a full front bumper on the way now finally so that'll be on soon.
