Hello guys, I’ve finally decided to make an account, so go easy on me, I’m still learning,
I’ve been reading a some of threads about turbos for the i4 2tr-fe
About 2 years ago I bought my taco, displeased with going from a v8 to a 4cyl taco, I’ve been lost. BUT I’ve recently started doing my research on some turbos, I know that it probably won’t provide as much torque (or maybe) as most v8s (coming from the Titan 5.6) but who needs them.
I’d like to be enlightened on which turbo will be best for my taco, right now I have my eye on the GT2871R idk if I should go with the 49.2mm or 53.1mm or if either of these will be the right one. I’m turbo dumb, but I’m definitely wanting to go this direction?

53mm 0.64 AR T25 with 5 bolt outlet if you want to run what would be included in the god-awful OzBoost kit. I run the GT2871r on mine.

Best of luck. It's a ton of work with virtually no support besides on here in the Turbo BS Thread.
Unless you have a manifold custom made- prepare to have to import the manifold from China.
It's certainly not a "slap and go" type of mod. You also need to be okay with tapping the block for the oil return, and be good at self-tuning on a piggyback.

Does it sound like I'm talking you out of it yet?
You need to be fully committed to it if you're going to go through with it.

Not yet, I’ve been reading a lot about the Ozboost,
And what it sounds like to me, is the manifold and down pipe are the only things worth talking about, everything else is pretty much trash.
I also hear the the 3rz turbo manifold will work with the 2tr engine,
I’m willing to do what it takes, and I also know that it won’t be a cake walk. Thank you for your input!
I just wish I could find the proper 2tr manifold.

Edit: I think I misinterpreted something somewhere on the 3rz manifold working on 2tr. So I’m not sure about that now

Why not just a supercharger kit from URD?

Just thought I'd chime in with my 2 cents. I turboed my '06 some time ago, went through lotsa tune frustration, from shop to shop looking for someone with Toyota ECU expertise, MAP-ECU3 expertise, anything kinda relevant expertise here in Colorado. I finally got to a point where I purchased the URD SC kit, if for no other reason then to test out, then to replicate, the MAP-ECU programmed by URD for a boosted 2TR and their 5th injector setup with my turboed 2TR. If that had not been satisfactory, was going to just do a full URD SC kit install and move on from turbo. Today I am glad that I did not (but I've never driven a SCed 2TR Tacoma either, but a SC loses boost with altitude, so a disadvantage here in Colorado too). No question that the whole process is pretty involved. I tapped the cast alum above the oil pan for oil return purposes and used just the OZboost manifold and dump tube and fuel pressure regulator from them. The manifold and dump tube are made of steam pipe and are serving well, but agree with many of the posts that the rest of the stuff in their kits was pretty bad quality stuff. I'd be happy to talk and walk you through major aspects of a 2TR turbo install, FaceTime or shoot you a video, etc. Totally, totally agree that the URD SC is much, much more straightforward and I am sure a very good choice for most.

Related to it all, the URD SC kit that I purchased earlier this year is available, essentially as new, as I only installed the air pipes, intercooler, 5th injector and MAP-ECU3 for a couple of hundred miles as a "test out" before taking the components off and replicating them using my own piping, intercooler and 5th injector setup. Everything else is brand new. Listed on Boulder, CO Craigslist.

Thank you! I’m prepared to endure this long journey,
What I’m mainly looking for is a 2tr turbo mani, and down pipe and wondering if you just fabricated it or bought it somewhere, EVERYWHERE I look, none to be found except in kits, I’m thinking of get a 2tr manifold flange and having someone help me out from there. I know I’ll need some help on tuning, I’ve been watching the map-ecu3 on YouTube,

I purchased the kit from Ozboost back in 2015/16 or so. They may well be willing to sell you just the manifold and down pipe. If you look through the Project Red Rocket Build link from dirtdigginjoe above, it looks like he was able to get the exact manifold and down pipe from an Alibaba supplier and it may well be the same ones that Ozboost includes in their kit. Here is a link that I found: https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...ml?spm=a2700.7724838.2017115.1.4dcb526fU313ur

Where did you purchase your manifold from?
