    Hi guys,

I just got into the Taco family last week after buying a 2012 SR5 DC LB after looking around for a couple of years. Excited to start modding it and making it my own. Been watching alot of Tacomaholics videos which haven given me a lot of ideas (although expensive ones) haha.

My question- I noticed a small gash on the side mirror from the previous owner and I was thinking about just sanding it down and plasti-dipping it (since it's not color-matched). Does anyone have experience in exchanging the entire mirror housing for ones with turn indicators? Preferably 2nd gens.

    Let me know!

I am curious if the 2nd gen tacoma uses the same dimensions as the Hilux? It appears they use the same 3 stud mounting method.

If the side view mirror are interchangeable, Clear View Mirrors from the AUS would be a great option. They are incredibly expensive though.

Only cost $20 for each and about 3 hours time, no fitment issues as these are my stock mirrors

I had the same thought. @asgardengineering informed me that the dimensions would be off, leading to a real PITA install with heavy modifications involved on a very expensive item.

I have T4R mirrors or housing that I am going to swap my stock motors into. Then do heated mirrors, puddle lights and turn signals. Have not had time to dig into it. Not sure on the Sr5 but I believe for the TRD models the turn signal wire is wired up at least to the connector then all you need to do it wire it from there to the "new" turn signal.

The Sr5 may require some more extensive wiring to tap into the turn signals. I am not 100% but I recall something along those lines.

That would be greatly appreciated! If those mirrors won't work, I'm back to trying to figure out how to transplant Tundra mirrors.

Best option is the 2010-2012 4runner (before they changed the style) which can get you turn signals and puddle lights if you want them. then you can mod them for heated mirrors. The caps are the same size as Tacoma caps.

The other is a simple mod to use sport mirrors.

I have a sport, so I already have turn signals. Not too fussed about heat or puddle lights, just looking for a physically larger mirror for a wider field of view without image distortion.

Thank you! Does anyone have the measurements for a Tacoma so we can compare?

ah gotcha for some reason I thought you had a different version. I have been dating when I get to it, ditching the puddle light and retrofitting a 360 camera setup. I saw some setups that with possibly a 3d printed part would fit in.

I've wondered this same thing about the Hilux mirrors.

FYI, I ordered a set of Hilux convex mirrors on ebay to see if they fit...they do not. The shape is very similar but not close enough unfortunately.

Damn. Do the bolt holes not line up, is the plastic triangular part the wrong shape, or is it something else entirely?

I just tried the mirror glass, not the whole mirror assembly. I'm thinking after work today I might go take measurements on my 2015 tacoma to see if its close to what the hilux is.

That would be great. I’ve been meaning to do the same, but work has been insane since this coronavirus thing kicked off. I look forward to seeing your results!
