I just wanted to share a mod I did to my truck with you guys. I think it came out really nice.
First I started with a 2016+ Tacoma trd pro shift knob.
Then I bought a trd shift boot off of eBay. (Universal).

For the install, i trimmed the bottom of the shift knob so the sleeve that came with the boot can slip over.

Next I bent a coat hanger to the shape I wanted the boot. Then I sewed the boot around the coat hanger.

Lastly. I glued the boot to the shifter bezel and cut the gear selector cover to fit around.

Let me know if anyone wants links and I will post them.

Looks slick. Would drive me nuts though to have an obscured gated shifter. I can shift mostly by feel but getting to some of the lesser used gears on the auto takes a quick glance.

Does that third gen shifter just bolt right on? It has the same threads?

Looks amazing, and relatively easy to do. the only barrier to entry I see is the cost.

I instaled the TRD pro knob but didnt opt to do the shift boot. Trying to fabricate a knob trim piece that can taper down to the shaft. Stay tuned.

Awesome, what are you using? I asked MESO about this but he's got to much on his plate.

I was thinking a reducer would be nice too, but I don't like the diameter of the rod, its way too thin and doesn't look robust enough. I think a leather boot like OEM 3rd gens look the best.

I, too asked Meso. ;) I haven't figure a way to attack it yet. I just didn't want to cut off the plastic clips on the knob. I thought about the boot but didn't feel like going the extra mile fabbing up a way to secure it and what not. Just a slight reducer but not too much like the oem 2gen knobs. I'll have to think about it some more.

Wow that's thinking outside the box to make something cool. Way to pull it together with a really clean finished look.
