hello all. I'm new to the forum and have found tons of help on here. Time to quit lurking! I recently bought a 2005 DCSB 4X4. The steering rack is leaking pretty bad and needs to be replaced. I've done a bunch of searching but can't find anything on the steering rack R&R for our trucks. Am I missing it? Has anyone ever done it? Tips? Or should I just take it in?

I'm considering doing it myself because I'm re-doing the entire suspension this weekend (pro-comp junk has to go) with the coils, struts, uca's, and sway bar out of the way, should be easier I'm thinking. Any info is appreciated!

It's kind of a pain but once you figure out how to maneuver it you're good. I'd suggest throwing poly bushings in if you have time to order them.

No problem. I would copy as many of those and save them locally as they could get removed....

Tie your steering wheel as to not let it move while doing rack. Or you will be replacing clock spring if steering wheel gets more than one turn off.

Thanks for all the help/links guys! Got the whole project done. Turns out someone had already replaced the rack before me. I knew this because the bolts were in backwards (up from the bottom). Lazy Asses! The worst part was getting the tie rod ends cracked loose. Ended up getting new ones. did a reman rack from NAPA. Seat belt pulled tight on the steering wheel worked perfect.

Also installed OME dakars out back with extended length 5100's, adjustable 5100's up front, with 887 coils, 1/4" drivers side spacer for the lean, SPC Control arms, center bearing shims, sway bar relocators and extended rear break lines. it was a long week as I only worked on it a couple hours at a time. Marie at Headstrong Offroad is awesome!

How has the remanufactured unit worked for you? Does anyone have suggestions on brands to use/avoid. I am doing mine shortly because the return lines are extremely rusted from all the years of salt

They were not "lazy asses", they actually saved you the headache of the "impossible bolt". JFC.
