2nd gen plug and play remote start

I just finished installing my Accessorides remote car starter with two-way controls. It was definitely plug and Play I watched the install video the whole time and it was simple. The only trouble I had was finding the 16-bit plug it had a black cap on it and I was looking for a white connector .
I was able to tuck away the antenna through the side column and I put it right next to the rear view mirror it's pretty seamless and you don't see any wires. There was no video on how to do it probably because of the airbag that's in the side column. Overall I'm happy and ready for winter, it gets cold in Ohio.

 

It's like Christmas morning and Dad (or Mom) forgot to buy batteries, and all the stores are closed. WTF. 12 Volt Solutions says I need a brake wire, since my module won't program. They don't really know why my Tacoma needs one (2015?) and they used to send them out with every kit, but stopped that to reduce costs. So - no joy for me today. Install was pretty easy, but now I have my truck pulled apart and I have to wait 3-5 days for this stupid add-on. The customer service is good. Only had to call back once, since you cannot leave a message if all their techs are already on calls.

UPDATE: (10/30/20)
15 minute timer on the remote start. Not sure if this is adjustable, but 15 minutes is enough for most situations. 2-way remote fob chimes once 15 minutes times out. And blue flashing lights disappears. Nice feature.
My DRL's are always on, so these flash when truck is locking. But 2-way remote gives you the feedback you need that it is locked.

I turned off the “horn” sound when locking prior to installing the remote start so I cannot comment here.

Blue light on 2-way remote tells you that the remote start was successful and that the truck is running.
IMO the single button on the fob is great to work with. No more looking at the remote to press the right button.

All doors lock on 1 click. Driver door opens on 2-clicks, followed quickly by the other doors (I have a DC). I personally like this feature of all doors opening at the same time. I know others do not, for security reasons. (no Trolls please)

2-way remote is slightly thicker than the 1-way remote, but comparable to the OEM. See photos. The blue light and audible feedback from the 2-way remote is great!

My install was delayed by 5 days as I could not program the Voxx module. 12 Volts Solutions told me that I needed a Brake adaptor wiring harness – if you have a 2015 Tacoma, request they add this to the initial order (at no charge) to save you time with the install. You could always send it back to them for a few dollars if they want it back. They used to send this additional harness as a standard for certain Tacomas, but stopped doing this for cost reasons.
Pit Stop mode works great.

Mounted the long range antenna in the upper left corner of the windshield. Others have mounted it in the A-pillar or behind the rearview mirror.

Tested the Range at 900 feet. Outside, in a residential neighborhood, and not line-of-sight to truck. Worked great. Did not work when tested at 3,100 feet.

As others have said, the installation instructions are poor. YouTube videos and their own install videos are really are all you need.

Their customer phone support was good too.

 

DISREGARD THIS. I SEE THAT THEY HAVE A BRAKE PEDAL HARNESS FOR 2005-2010 THAT THEY WILL LIKELY SEND ME. PLUG AND PLAY. I bought 12 Volt Solutions and have been told that I need this Brake Sense wire too. I see you solder so you have skills. What is your opinion of me (without skills) to get this wire hooked up? Where did it terminate?

 

I am abit slow, but when you say you wrapped the chrome in vinyl, how did you do this? What did you use? I have the same remote and am anticipating the same problem sometime in the future. Thanks.

 

Thank you to everyone on the thread sharing their experience. I am looking to get a remote start and I feel much better informed. I think I am goin with the 12volt.solutions one so I reached out to them and asked if they had an upcoming sale. They said that they are doing a big sale for Black Friday/Cyber Monday and they will have a countdown timer up on their site soon to announce it. Tell your wives and girlfriends what you want for Christmas....

 

remember to request the Brake Adaptor harness just in case you need it. Push them to include it at no charge, If you need it, this will save you 5 days or so in your install. If they balk, tell them that you will send it back to them for a couple of bucks if you don't need it.

I also confirmed with 12volt.solutions their Black Friday sale is the same discount for Cyber Monday so if anyone is interested the deal is the same for that whole period of time.

 

What is the brake adapter harness?

 

It is in this thread a few times but it has to do with the remote starter knowing that your truck is in park so that it can start. Seems like some Tacomas need the additional harness and some don't depending on the model and year.

 

@Accessorides Does anyone know if the accessorides will interface with an aftermarket alarm if added after the fact?

This is my first post here but I've lurked for a year or so.

I'm in Canada, and want to install a 2 way remote start in my 2005 DCSB with the 6 speed manual. I've had quotes around $700-$1000, installed, which i think is utterly ridiculous (if I can find a shop willing to do it).

I'd like to do it myself with a plug and play kit, if possible.

However, I emailed two companies mentioned here, and both told me they don't have anything for the manual trans.

Am I missing something?

 

I cant answer about the manual transmission but just an FYI I just bought the accessorides kit and paid the $45.00 international shipping then got hit with an additional $57.00 customs, just want to factor that into the price.

 

How do you like the kit so far? I’m think about picking it up if they offer a Black Friday deal

Unfortunately with shipping into Canada it is quite expensive to mail and then on top of that we have no info/control over what is charged from duties/customs once it gets there. We use USPS and saw some pretty inflated numbers when we used UPS or FedEx. The charges seem almost random at times with no rhyme or reason to them :/ If you have any issues with the install feel free to give us a call!

I just saw it. I plan to call in tomorrow to make sure I get the correct one for my model. 20% is pretty good. Wasn’t sure if that was free shipping or not but I will call tomorrow for certain. Any idea how long the special will last? I’m interested in the long range 2-way for a 2010 with the immobilizer

 

Yea looking at that deal I probably should have waited lol, would have lessened the blow from all the shipping costs, all good installing it this weekend if it doesn't pour rain here.
