    Youd never break even.....

OP- 2 5 gallon gas cans can be had for under 50 bucks. Or get a boat gas tank. You can get them in 6 or 12gallon versions.

Yep I would just find a way to rig up some rotopax gas cans in the bed if you really need the extra range.

But if you want a larger tank so you don't have to stop by 7-11 as often? You'll never break even on the cost.

I went on a long road trip around the southwest US. Went to Canadian Tire (I'm sure theres an American equivalent) and picked up 2x25 litre fuel cans for like $60. Cheap, simple and reliable.

You could even get fancy and get an electric 12v fuel pump to transfer the fuel out of the larger tanks into the main tank. Yeah youd have to stop but realistically after a full tank of gas in the taco, you should be stopping anyways to stretch.

Depends what you consider affordable. What are you needing the extra fuel for?

I've found that keeping it at 60mph (maybe 65) on the highway yields a massive MPG increase in my Tacoma. As long as you have the extra time, that could be another way to extend your range.

I’d be interested to see that or a fuel cell setup on a Tacoma. In the bed, passenger side obviously. Lol

My Ford has a 36-gallon tank and once you get used to it, it's hard to go back to a smaller tank. Especially on longer trips and towing. For running around town, it isn't a big deal. Stopping to fill up with gas cans defeats the purpose of not having to stop. If I've got to stop and pour gas I'd just as soon stop at a gas station. That might be a viable option on a long off-road trek.

I don't see it as cost effective to upgrade, would be nice to see just a bit more from the factory. While 3 gallons might not sound like much Tacoma's 21-gallon tank beat's Rangers 18-gallon tank. Those 3 extra gallons means at least another 50 miles of driving before you have to stop. I'd like to see around 25 gallons from the factory.
