Does anyone know if there is an insert for the 2nd gen hood scoop that makes it more aerodynamic?

I feel like my scoop is a parachute in head winds when I’m driving. I notice a direct decrease in gas mileage. I know it’s not a functional hood scoop so might as well try and get some better gas mileage.

The hood scoop is probably the smallest thing you could change to improve gas mileage.

I haven’t. I don’t want to swap my hood. Just put an insert in that fills the scoop so it doesn’t catch so much wind.

True. But at least a little improvement could help.

I think the improvement in mileage will be imperceptible.
Make a closed cell foam mock-up and try it, track mileage as carefully as possible.

That’s a good idea. I’ll have to try it. Thanks.

Yup . The light bar mod is one way of plugging the hole .
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/led-hood-scoop-mod.184158/

Or you could go all out and make your skewp completely functional . Its been mentioned that guys who do this mod see 45-to 50 horsepower gains

There was also mention that after the dynamometer test , he got 62.3 extra horsepower but he also did the cam gears at the same time

That hood scoop doesn't catch much air. I had a lizard sitting right in front of it on the flat part and drove to home depot. Little bastard was still there.

Where has that been said? I'm going to have to see some proof. Because the hood scoop isn't even a high pressure zone which means air isn't being forced into it via speed. 45-50hp would be absolutely absurd, especially on this engine that sees little to no gains even on expensive bolt ons. :p

Take a look at the whole front end of your truck including windshield, that is where the wind resistance is. The hood scoop if there is any wind resistance it is minuscule, not even measurable. No matter what you do to the hood scoop there will be no noticeable or measurable difference in gas mileage.

I don’t think the form drag from the hood scoop will make a noticeable translation to gas mileage, but I’d love to see your results in the end.

from an aerodynamics point...it has a low pressure vacuum area created and techincally acts as a small winglet, giving lift to your hood, INCREASING your gas mileage..you just need to add little stubby nose down attitude wings to the side of it to take full adavanatge of this design!

That scoop isn't the parachute in head winds...its your whole truck. Way over thinking this. If you want to save mpg don't lift the truck. Keep the wheels and tires as light as possible.

The difference is below "negligible" the best thing you can do for gas mileage is tires and easing on the gas pedal.
