I have the ugly, almost worthless factory "X" subwoofer in between the rear seats and while it does add some bass, it leaves much to be desired.

I want to replace it with something that looks better, but doesn't take up more space and sounds much better. I've seen some custom enclosures for access cabs that either take up storage in the center console (JL Audio) or the space in between the rear seats (OEM Audio Plus) or just replace the whole space in between the rear seats (Subthump). The closest to what I've seen that I want is this but I don't care for the little speakers that come with it and I'm sure there is a better sub that can handle more power and sounds better than the one below. I would prefer that the enclosure come no further fast the seats when folded up, so I can still fit whatever crap I want without sub getting in the way.

Considering space, I want to know if anyone has mounted a shallow mount 8" subwoofer and enclosure in the same space? As for amplification, does the stock sub run off a separate amp and where is it? My guess is however it is powered, it won't be compatible with an aftermarket subwoofer? Whats the power needed for a good 8" shallow mount sub in the factory location to actually feel any bass? I haven't yet replaced the speakers and have only installed a Kenwood head unit. I want to replace speakers with 6.5 or 6.75 component speakers and tweeters. Head unit puts out 22 watts RMS/50 peak x 4 channels. My truck only has front speakers and tweeters which I assume are bridged into 2 channels so the max I have is 3 channels. Would it sound better to run components to an amp or just run it off the head unit? If running on an amp I would like to run it all off one class D amp. If only running the sub through an amp, what would be a good sub/amp combo? I would like to get the best sound out of the components while providing all the power the sub needs at max listening volume. What do you recommend for components to run through either head unit or paired with an amp? I like that Taco Tunes has everything but how do these components compare in price and performance to other components out there: https://*********.com/shop/toyota-t...ics-cxs64-component-speaker-installation-kit/

Sorry for my ignorance, last time I installed a complete stereo system was when I was 17 with my dad 14 years ago and it was easy because it was an older Acura but I didn't know much how car audio really worked.

I recently upgraded the sound on my 2015 access cab . I kept the stock headunit but added a 5 channel Reference Kenwood amp and replaced the factory components with a nice set of Kenwood 7" mids and tweets . For a sub I chose a kicker L7QB8...which sits perfectly between the jump seats...not too obtrusive.. seats still function.
