    Hey guys,

I recently purchased a 2013 TRD Pro, 6 speed with 73k on the ticker and the clutch is pretty much shot. I live on an island with super steep hills. This is my daily driver and my clutch takes a good beating up and down these mountains every day. I need something that will last.

Looking for a recommendation for n aftermarket clutch kit that will handle the mountainous terrain I drive on daily. A price point option and what I should consider springing the extra cash for...

    Thanks in advance!

I have 220k on my truck and am still rocking the original oem clutch. I'm amazed that it's lasted this long. If I were in your shoes I would just go with OEM again but I also don't have any experience with any of the aftermarket ones. Best of luck in your search.

Yeah, I was just seeing if anyone knew an aftermarket option that would stand up to these steep hills (mountains) better before I pulled the trigger on an OEM kit.

These are all the performance ones I know. May at least help with the research so you can read up on each one. I would assume that if a clutch can handle more power then it'll also be able to handle hills, but I don't actually know that to be true or not.

If you're unmodified I can't recommend OEM enough, with the deletion of the accumulation valve and replacing the shite plastic pedal with the steel FJ one.

If you are modified I have been satisfied with my URD Stage II with the Torq-U-heavy Flywheel.

I highly recommend the URD clutch quill sleeve kit as well if you're doing a clutch job now is the time to do this important mod/upgrade/preventive maintenance. Replace the pivot and fork and cylinders with the upgraded TSB parts and the neutral detent with the RC62 part from a 3rd gen also.

I will say while it doesn't seem to have effected function in any way shape or form I do have a strange "diesel injector clatter" sound coming from the bell housing since I installed the URD kit but only in neutral, only at idle, and only with the clutch pedal up.

Been running it with no issues for over a year now and been very happy with performance and while I know everything is correct with the install as I am meticulous I'm still scratching my head on the weird noise.

It's not all the time either, most of the time, enough that if it's not ticking I feel like something is off till I realize the noise isn't there but still it's an anomaly.

By "shot" what do you mean? Does it not disengage properly and drag during a shift, or slip after the pedal is released? If you "double pedal" does it shift more easily? When you break it apart to change the disc and pressure plate and bearings, look hard at the rear main seal for leakage, as well as the slave cylinder. Unless the previous owner rode the clutch or otherwise abused it, you should be able to get well over 100K out of a factory model.

If you installed a dual disc clutch that noise is normal in neutral.

Ok, "shot" may be exaggerating... So what's happening is; When it is under load, especially in 4x4 while backing up a hill, I am seeing smoke and it smells like breaks. This also happens when towing my boat up the boat ramp but not quite as bad. I am told this is the clutch going out..? Also, I have to push the pedal all the way to the floor to get the gears to engage.

I would put their bearing kit in no matter what, the oem bearing is garbage.
