How much do you like wiring, fabricating, and paying big $$$?

    How mechanically inclined are you?

Not sure about a guide but there's one guy on here that did a NA JZ swap on his GFs truck. He even swapped in the steering wheel & I think dashboard from the donor car. I actually met him & saw it in person, I bought flares off of him.

My buddy has actually done a few single turbo JZ swaps in first gens. But that all he does is work on JZ builds & swaps.

It’s doable but it will be a lot of money, downtime, and work. I hope you have another vehicle to use. The member who did it on here has a build thread that goes over two years.

How much mechanical experience do you have? You’re going to have to rip out the entire drivetrain and every mechanical system on the truck.

This seems like one of those things you shouldn’t have to ask for a guide for.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
As stated in the other comments, this will be a huge plunge and undertaking. I think I'd rather go find a 2JZ equipped car and have fun with that if it were me. Problem with a truck swap is it will still be a big, heavy, bulky brick with a more powerful engine is all. Still handle horrible, not corner worth a damn, awful gas mileage and likely a bit of a pain to work on since there will be various parts crammed into strange spots that are hard to get to. Unless you plan to do all maintenance/repairs yourself, finding a mechanic who will willingly and reasonably (charge you to) dive into the mess will be a whole nother ordeal itself.

If you're dedicated and driven, by all means, but not for me personally. I look forward to the build thread if you go through with it, either way! Frankenstein projects are always exciting to watch unfold for sure.

Exactly. If you're familiar with doing swaps you don't need a guide. Getting the engine mounted is one thing but you'll need experience with converting the wiring. I used to do engine swaps on Hondas in the early 2000s & that wiring was easy but still time consuming sometimes.

If you don't have experience you can still learn, just expect it to be a time consuming project & hope you have help.

    What he said.

You are basically gutting the Tacoma and putting an entire IS300 in it, for example. Every wire, every vacuum system, every mechanical counterpart will need to be changed.

You have to have some kind of knowledge of custom engine swaps to do something like this. It’s difficult.

Fixed. His website had a weird link.

Yeah that website & those trucks are really old. I'm surprised that website is still up. I remember that website long before I even had my Tacoma & I've had my Tacoma for 14 yrs now.

My dream engine swap will be a 2JZ-GTE from a 1998 USDM Supra.

Stupid, expensive, and idiotic. But that’s why it’s a dream.

I seriously considered a JZ swap for my 4runner. Had a complete parts list down at one point. I pulled the plug on that idea when the total bill for parts reached $10,000!

This was for a simple JDM 1JZ backed by a 3.4 R150. Small single turbo capable of maybe 400hp at the crank all said and done. Even with me doing absolutely all of the work I would've been easily 15k into it before I ever drove it. There are cheaper ways to get close enough to 400hp.
