Im 19 years old, and I just bought a 2007 Tacoma on December 24, 2017, and Ive had it long enough to realize I need more power! I used to drive my dads 2014 tundra with a Bullydog Tuner, and that was nothing shy of powerful! However, I got out of high school and I bought my own truck. My taco has a 3.0 V6, it has 230,xxx miles, slightly knocking , and a vacuum leak somewhere in the motor. I want to explore different options with motor swaps, I have enough know how to make it happen, but I will be thankful for any advice! I would like to build an imported 2jz-GTE VVTI to around 600-800 HP. I would like to get a ford 9" rear end, or even IRS, but that will be a TON of work and time! (But may be worth it for handling)

Anyone who has done this before who has some notes that would be useful would be sweet! Weather it is on the 2jz motor in general, the Tacoma motor swap process, transmissions, or anything, I need all the info I can get! It may be a month or so before I buy the motor, so I still have time to brainstorm!

I also plan on making a youtube video series of in depth building and swapping since it is kind of a no mans land!

This is the Tacoma, and as y'all will see, I do have a thing for silver trucks haha!IMG_1148.jpg

This is the truck I was lucky enough to drive, but spoiled my need for power!

What do yall think?? Also I will keep yall posted on any updates!

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
    Welcome!

You do not have a 3.0, those are trash.

Your 4.0 with a little work would be easier, and you will have a lot more support.

Lots of heafaches with a 2JZ, why do you choose that?

For a 2JZ swap 6-800 HP, and supporting mods.. 30k would be a conservative budget. If you do most of the work, and expect it to perform.

You could have about 400 hp, relatively reliable and working for less than 10k.

You have a great reliable engine, I’d dump some cash into it now to give it whatever it needs and prevent any serious damage that may happen if left alone. It should serve you well for another 200k if you overhaul it now and get some work done. That’ll be way way cheaper in the long run than doing a 2jz swap. No offense man but I think that kind of swap would be a big waste of money and will cost you an arm and leg before you even begin doing anything at all.

If you really really want more power, the cheapest option is to sell the truck and pick up an older tundra or something with a v8

If you are gonna spend, and have that money...

A suprcharged 3UR-FE would be cooler

Went back and forth on posting this and fully expect backlash.

God damnit I'm turning into an old guy...

I hate to be that guy, and I hope you don't listen to me, I didn't listen to the old guys when I was 19 and I wouldn't be as experienced if I had.

Experience is the best teacher, and she's a bitch putting it nicely buuuuuut....

You're 19, the 4.0 is plenty of power to get you in trouble already and believe me it will. You just need to fix the problems it has right now and it will be more than enough fun.

    As for Independent rear, why!?

    IT'S A TRUCK!

Sounds to me lile you want it to do everything, it can't, if you want a streetcar get a streetcar.

You can't afford a high HP 2JZ swap and even if you can don't, put that money towards something that matters like a house.

If you have the kind of money to do a 2J swap then just buy a Tundra and be happy.

I helped a buddy build a 550hp RB25 powered 240sx, all said and done about 25k went into that car, and we got some hellova good deals. Really 30k+ went into it, and we even chose the RB25 for a cost saver because the 2J parts were too expensive.

2JTax is a real thing, you want to build 800hp 2jz you better have 40k cash and a daily driver to get started on the project and expect to dump another 40k into it to get it all sorted and reliable.

I'm just rambling now in short,

It's more money and work than you think and no where near worth it.

But I say fuck the nay sayers go for it, learn, and keep us posted!

At 19, I think you should focus on things that lead you towards a decent career rather than working and blowing all your dough on a jdm fanboy dream....but if you're already make bank, then go for it.

As a side note, I know one person who has a somewhere around 750hp 2JZ single turbo powered 96 240sx fully built, about 70k tied up in that car, it's her daily and she happens to be a stripper, and her boyfriend is in jail for dealing blow.

Met her at a drift even rather than her, *ahem* professional establishment incase you were wondering.

You met a stripper at an event where rubber is quickly worn out and vehicles are just plain abused. All after market parts I am sure!

    That is funny!

Slap a turbo on it or the URD supercharger.

I wouldn't dump that much time and effort into an 11 year old 2 wheel drive truck at 19 years old. 2 wheel drive in LA limits you quite a bit. Too many good trails, mud, and fun in the state.

You already have a reliable vehicle that will likely last you through 4 years of school or entry level job years. I would save the cash for something decent later on.

That said, not my monkeys and not my circus, so this is just me subscribing to spy on the creative solutions we may see here. Good luck and have fun.:spending:

Buy an MKIII Supra, remove 7MG, swap in 2JZ, use your truck to haul your toy.
