I heard that 2gr fks is more complicated then 1gr fe !
Any thoughts that is going to be less reliable? And is going to affect longevity as well ...

    More parts mean more issues.

The IS250 had direct injection without D4S and they have major carbon issues.

The D4S 2GRFKS is very good, I havent seen any issues except for fuel pump noise, and cranks sensor issues (on the highlander, never tacoma)

Any complaints of leaks from timing cover, or oil pans is normal from the GR motors since 2007.

Welcome to TW. I'm sorry for your problem.

The search button is up there. Try and find yourself two similar engine reliability issues.

I'll give you a couple hints: smoking on an incline, which is not isolated to the 2gr and cam cover leaks, which are rare and are just leaks.

    Have fun!

I have 150K mile 1GR-FE that is leaking oil (timing cover) and has a slight vibration.

well yes its more complicated but that doesn't mean its less reliable. that's old school thinking along the lines of simple=better. If we follow simple=better to current tech we would be riding in electric trucks with carbon foam batteries.

So that means the 2gr fks will leak oil at less than 100k miles :goingcrazy:

Welcome. There was a thread today with a guy at 141K and he has only put on brakes on front. Another has 200K plus. No problems. As a matter of fact, these trucks are proving to be extremely reliable and durable. Think what you want.

You are absolutely correct! Every 2GR-FKS engine ever produced failed miserably since it was introduced in 2016! Toyota has been hiding the fact that the engine failed! We need to burn all our trucks and shutdown the 3rd gen forum until this is figured out. Thank you for opening our eyes to this incredibly obvious issue!

does the AC drain mod count?
My 2gr-fks at 95k miles is currently leaking oil from the cam cover the high pressure fuel pump sits on... Granted I let the dealership work on my truck for a TSB to replace a faulty fuel pump. They did it for free but they apparently fucked up the gasket and stealership work and parts are only guaranteed for a measly 12 months. Really upset with toyota's new lack of standards.

Our parts truck, 18 Taco, has over 400k on it in 3 years. Not a drop of oil burnt or leaked.
