This made me think about the occasional comments on here that there’s allot of failures with the v6 and they seem to be basing this on threads here or some anecdotal evidence from someone. The reality is we can’t comprehend the volume of these that are sold in comparison to the amount of failures we read about here. Don’t get me wrong, it’s gotta suck ass if you have an issue and I completely get why the unfortunate people that it happens to are upset.

Neil Degrasse Tyson explains how we naturally have a difficult time understanding statistics in this video.

    Agreed!
I've had this discussion several times when people run into people they (slightly) know while traveling... (in peak season at a major landmark...)

It is on a par with cases when:
    - people are astounded that thier total bill for anything is an even dollar amount.
    - people say in amazement that their lost item was 'In the last place I looked' - why would you keep looking if you ALREADY FOUND IT! :angrygirl:

There are more... but I'll stop here...

Yeah it’s a very small number of failures compared to the huge volume of third gens on the road .like less than 1 percent probably .

Yes, happy Friday folks! TW is looking rather boring these days as the 3rd gen has proven to be hugely popular and dead reliable. Very few catastrophic failures to report. Typical Toyota. Can't wait for the 4th gen to arrive so we'll really have something to talk about.

    I don’t see a stickied thread called “2TR-FE Engine Problem/Failure”

Because it is not relevant to the Tacoma. Einstein! It still has the same issues as the FKS. Timing cover leaks, etc.

The 2GR-FE has never been put in a Tacoma! The 2GR-FKS is the updated version with both port and direct fuel injection along with other minor tweaks.

People use statistics like a drunk uses a lamp post, sometimes for illumination, and sometimes for support.
