This has been a heated debate on here and I wanted to see some statistics on some of these failures. I will update the member list in the original post. This is not a thread for discussion and just want people commenting if the failure happened to you or someone you know on this site with a link to their thread on this topic.

To get as much information as possible if known:

    72 members so far.

    -Mileage that problem/failure happened:

    -What actually happened:

    -Vehicle usage (towing/off-roading/pavement pounder):

    -Vehicle modifications (tune/geared/tires):

    65000 miles
Failed head gasket and cracked block

    What happened:
Mid June 2022 Driving down highway at 65 mph lol normal, heard a lil pop sound, then check engine light came on and ran like crap all the sudden. Temp gage was in the middle as normal. Pulled over within a few hundred feet and saw coolant over flowing and vapor coming from tail pipe while motor off..

    Maintenance:
Oil change and service inspection every 5k miles

    Usage:
-Light off roading (dirt roads, a few beach trips)
-Some towing but within tow rating and only about 100 miles per year towing

    Mods:
    Almost all stock
    K&N air filter
    265/75R16 BFG KO2
    FJ Wheels
    Cell phone booster

    Coverage/Status:
-Outside of factory powertrain warrant so not covered there. Had MPP extended warranty and they covered it, but they’re putting in salvage mystery motor (55k miles on motor from truck that was totaled in rear end collision).
-Still in shop getting new motor and fuel pump recall repairs.

    Thread below:
First indication was a check engine light and code (in thread). Dealership stated could be bad gas or the exhaust valves. After running good gas and check engine light returning a compression leak test performed to pinpoint exhaust valve.

Burnt exhaust valve. Engine removed and one head and exhaust valve and associated components changed. 30 days at dealership and covered by warranty.

When enquiring if they were seeing others Tacoma’s or trends. They stated they were but more Highlanders (same engines).

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/posts/26450886/

Also traded in somewhat immediately afterwards for a 2022.

Customer states CEL is on. Code return, misfire cylinder 5. Long story short, cylinder 5 fails leakdown.
Passenger side head/valves replaced under warranty (this failure happened in late 2020).

    Useage was pavement pounder.
Had a medium bed rack with RTT. Seemed to be stock otherwise.
