I made the mistake of being talked into 295/75/16 on my 2020 TRD Pro with 1/2” spacers up front and 1” add a leaf in rear. BIG mistake on the 295’s, extra weight and just that little extra over the 285’s made me trade them in and take a $600 hit to replace them! Now running 285/75/16 which is what I wanted in the beginning. It was worth it, MUCH better, no rubbing even in reverse and better acceleration while at 85mph fwy speeds!D6F0E5ED-9433-4777-B5B9-E96E1B41F385.jpg

Yeah, width adds a ton of weight to tires (1" wider adds way more weight than 1" taller). Not surprised to hear it's noticeable.

I have a Raptor with Nitto 35x12.5x22’s and they are noticeably too heavy on that truck, but they look great. Now my F250 diesel has 35’s and I can’t tell at all, LOL. The new 16” rims on the 2020 Tacoma Pro are over 4 lbs lighter EACH on the new 2020’s so I didn’t want to change them out for the 17” 4-Runner Pro rims that I love. The extra lbs for that little 3.5L are noticeable.

Ya man, auto. I hated to go smaller but the 295’s just looked a little out of wack too. The white lettering helped with that big sidewall area with the 16” s but the 285’s are perfect now. When we stacked them up next to each other they looked the same really, but I had to remove the mud flaps with the 295’s and they still hit in reverse and going up little bumps. It was terrible. The 285’s allowed me to put the mud flaps back on too! Lol53BBA384-95ED-4F96-AFA6-FEDF2691147B.jpg

I’m on 295 and have zero rubbing but I flattened my pinch bag weld, did the cab mount chop, and cut plastic. My mud flaps have been gone since my 265 days. I want 35x12.5 or 315’s after my regear. Also had my truck since 07 and it’s way easier to cut into now lol. I like big tires, but my main reason is for ground clearance to keep my belly from scraping. It’s the only way to get more clearance once lifted 2 to 3 inches.

Even with a re-gear, you can never truly make up on the road for bigger sized tires once you hit that size in a small truck. It's either all or nothing at a certain point, which is why it is always cool to see people work their way up in sizes instead of seeing this happen. At least you found the bright side of it though!!

Appreciate it! I dig you build, I love white trucks, I ended up with the opposite. If I had long commutes it would be another story. I just got a car for around town too so that helps.

You’re right on the move up instead of down idea. This is my second Tacoma so I should’ve been smarter. These are some of the other toys but my TRD Pro has been a favorite project. Now to just get rid of that damn hesitation on take offs! The ZR2 and Z71 Colorado’s are rockets compared to the Pro and it pisses me off that I still can’t find a good RELIABLE supercharger!101AED21-E9EC-4EC0-880D-BDB752571560.jpg

It’s the Bay Area Metal Fab bumper. I absolutely love it. It comes with beastly winch gussets that sandwich the frame so your not just pulling on frame studs. I have been trying to get a rear high cleanse order out for a week or two. I want the BAMF really bad but it’s pricey. Trying to get a brute force ordered.

We took all the toys out on a Jeep trail except the Raptor but now I know why it’s called a JEEP trail! Not good for MallKrawlers! I play in the sand, mud and snow mainly. Not enough clearance now. Love your truck man, wish I had a winch on one of my trucks. Just doesn’t go with these set ups. I want to get a used Tacoma and build it up like you did. It looks great man!A4060CFF-7C84-49A5-B710-6ABB5D781E82.jpg

Yeah I’m happy I have an 07 still cause there are so many less electronics/safety features and everything is easier to work on. The winch has save me and others so many times in the brief time i have had it. I love first gens to I wold love to get a older one at some point. I almost bout a single cab to solid axle swap a few years ago. You can get a lot done with the right recovery gear and no winch though.
