Hey guys, just saw this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goe8SdKIXGU where they install 285/17/16 BFG K02's on the stock 16 x 7 wheels. BFG says these tires are meant for wheels 7.5-9 inches so I never thought this was possible. Will I have any issues if I put these on a 7-inch wide wheel?

No issues here. 285/75r16 KO2 on stock OR wheels with 1.25” spidertraxx spacers. You have to have spacers or you won’t clear the upper control arms.

I've been running that size on stock wheels for over 10 in years. You get a little bulge but not that bad. Definitely need wheel spacers to clear the UCAs.

Are you saying you need to run spacers with stock UCA's or will you be fine with aftermarket UCA's no spacers?

It’s the offset of the stock wheels is why you need spacers not the UCA.

Stock OR wheels are +25 offset. So that puts a 285 tire to close to the UCA. The 1.25” spacer basically turns the stock OR wheel into -6 offset

I'm late to the party here but this is the exact thread I've been looking for. Just to confirm Xero, the image you posted (great rig btw) is literally just the 1.25" spacers added to your setup with regard to the wheels? You put the 285/75r16s on the 16" OEM wheels with no issue it seems.

If my assumption is correct, and you haven't done a lift kit for example, do you have any rubbing issues when bottoming out or on trail?

    Thanks!

Lift only helps clearance if you're a mall crawler. This guy doesn't look like a mall crawler, but his truck appears to have been levelled. Question still holds, @Xero do you rub?

Thanks, was looking closer and yes, it appears that @Xero has done some lifting action.

New question then... I would ideally like to skip lifting. However it seems common practice to lift when putting 285/75r16s on. Could I get away with little to no rubbing with just offset spacers? (doubt it)

*I'll add that I've got 265/75r16 KO2s on now on an OEM setup, and there seems to be tons of space.

    found this guys comment

255's would be thinner in width than stock, however they are 33.1 inches in diameter. With offset spacer maybe that could work??

Yup people that run pizza cutters have less problems with rubbing. Keep searching. I'm not too invested as I have a 2nd gen

Here’s a whole thread about putting 33 inch skinnies on stock OR Tacomas. I know that’s not the original question in the OP’s first post but I figured it goes to answer the question I quoted.

Yeah I've seen it, pretty useful. Mostly concerned with amount of trimming, offset, etc.

@Road_Warrior you got any info regarding adding offset spacers into the tall and skinny situation. I'm a fan of the tall but I'm not sure about the skinny factor just yet, putting some offset in there could balance in out from a front/rear view.

At that point in my build I was on

    285/75r16 KO2
stock OR wheels with spider track 1.25 spacers
Bilstein 5100 top out at 2” lift in the front. 1/4 spacer for taco lean.
Icon 1.5” AAL in the rear with Bilstein 5100.
    Stock UCA.

I had zero rub at full flex and full turn. Ran a few big name trails with that setup without issues.

Truck has changed since then. New wheels and new suspension. (2.8 lift in the front and 2” in the rear). No mall crawler here.

    No I don’t, sorry.

I’ve been reading through all the tall skinny threads and decided that my next set of tires will be skinny 33’s but I’m going to wait for my current set (265/76/16) to wear out first.
