Anyone attempt to put a 34” tire (285/70/18) on a 2024 Tacoma? I’m trying to avoid having to remove that cab crash pad in the front for safety reasons (I know it can be removed for fit a true 35” — 285/75/18 or the 17” wheel equivalent) — people don’t talk much about 34s but I think they could be a nice middle ground that balances tire size, weight, safety, mileage etc.

Dealer here is putting on what looks to be 34s, I am swinging by there Thursday to do some more test driving. Looks a little tight though, don’t think it is lifted.

Oh nice - why do you think 34s get no love?

If they just threw them on without any mods I should be ok with the higher trail hunter lift

    Because they aren’t 35s! Ha!

On the middle grade trucks, believe 33s would be better. Awfully nice they made it so we can do that without modding the suspension of having to cut the cab mount. Finally! Run 32s on my 3G so I don’t have to do that.

I have a trail hunter and the 33s it came with are a bit small on it. Thinking to get 34s. I think 35s will be too heavy. Trying to find a compromise.

Since it comes with a factory lift should be perfect. I too am concerned about rotational weight for gas mileage/range, trying to find the size I like has been difficult in a SL load rating.

Someone on here put on 285/75/18 on a TH and he had to remove the cab brace.. not sure about the 285/70/18

Yup. The stock tires are only 41 pounds if you can believe it. C load Falkens in 285/70/18 weigh 68. That’s a lot more rotational mass.

Edit: E load Toyos only weigh 58lb

Will do! Want to drive this one back to back with one on stock tires to see the difference.

Yeah a little too big for me, rather have something closer to 33 or 32 even.

Incredibly dumb question. Bear with me. Would it be bad to put 35s on the back and 34s on the front? Or is that just asinine?

I think if you do, like health care, the dealer will explain any other problem by the known problem. That problem being that your rear tires are too large.

edited to remove "rear tires are asinine."

I think as long as you are in two wheel drive you could be OK. As soon as the transfer case gets involved, there might be sensors wondering why your fronts aren't spinning like your back. Instrument panel might light up. Just my guess.

My SL 265/75/16 Cooper Road&Trail ATs are 40.

If I do come to my senses and buy a 4th Gen, probably do 265/70/18, that is slightly under a 33”.
