Bought my first 2023 Tacoma TRD Sport w/ the Stock 265/65R17 Sounds like 275/70R17 are the largest tires w/o lift on youtube but have heard that can rub too. Go big or stay safe w/ the in between 265/70R17. New here hope that makes sense? Thanks

    265-70-17 will fit just fine.

any bigger and you might rub, depending on your wheels offset.

275 has a lot less choices, but you can still get BFG's or Falkens no issues.

I've installed lots of 275s no rubbing.

Honestly I encourage 265 70 17 simply due to limited impact on driving. It's bigger, but not so big that you notice the power loss. It's truly the sweet spot for Tacoma.

I like to merge and retain my powerband, bigger tires eat torque.

Running the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT's in 265 70 17. On stock suspension. Not a huge difference in mileage. But, because i have a -12 offset i have a slight rub only turning in reverse.

Clearing bigger tires is all in the alignment. I can clear 34's with no cutting or trimming and only adding UCA's. A lift wont clear any bigger tires.

If you aren't lifting, stay safe w/ the in between 265/70R17 and there's only a minute chance you'll have rubbing using stock wheels (I've only seen one or two people on here that had minor rubbing with that size). As other mentioned, wheel offset can play a big role.

I'm looking for the offset currently on OP & my Sport...I know it's not "Zero Offset" but read somewhere it makes the tire poke out a little.

I'm looking for some pokey since I have Bushwacker Fendys.

@Koolbreeze7 has 275/70R17 w fox2.0 coilovers, no rub at anytime.

@Bishop84 encourages 265 70 17 simply due to limited impact on driving.

Well, I'm not getting new wheels/tires until at least 50K+ miles....currently at 22K miles.

Good luck OP and post pics of your decision.

EDIT: I found my post (#161) regarding the offset...but I didn't list the source.

I am running the T4R Sema wheels 7" wide. Offset is 4mm. The fronts are dam close to even. The rear, my bed is off a bit and I should try to center it, so one side has a bit more "poke"

I put 265/70 R17 on mine and they did rub in the front ended up putting 265/65R17 no rubbing.

My 265/70-17 on t4r trd pro wheels were close and that was a minimal offset wheel no mud flaps.

My 275/70-17 now with -10 offset wheel I don't think would have cleared had to trim a tiny bit of the front bumper and with new ucas proper align they fit with no cmc after lift.

Before my 2" lift, I upsized from 265/70/16 to 265/75/16 without rubbing, but it was awfully close to rubbing my upper control arms. My next tires will be 33" 255/80/17 pizza cutters.

I'd rather add ground clearance, without the extra bulk & weight of a wider tire, and keep my mud flaps. That fits my needs perfectly.

As long as you stick with stock Sport rims, you should be able to run any of them just fine. I went with 255/75R17 and I maintained a lot of clearance even with mud flaps. On aftermarket rims, you rub on pretty much any tire larger than stock because the rims are moved significantly further out. This is exactly why I kept the stock rims, as they offer the perfect tire placement, plus I think they look great anyways.

The width of the tire typically affects rubbing more than the height. In other words, you're more likely to clear a 255/75 than a 275/70. Personally, I don't see any reason to choose 275/70. I'd keep the choices to 265/70 or 255/75.

    @BLtheP

    Soooooo,

Keeping the stock Sport Rims/Wheels but getting 265/70s is the way to go?!

    Edited...nevermind.

I went with 255/75, but 265/70 would have about the same clearance. Definitely plenty of clearance even with mud flaps. I was concerned about it all the way up until I saw them mounted. I had the Sema 17x7 +4 wheels for a while with 265/70 and they definitely rubbed the flaps on turns with bumps.

I've got Bushwacker Fendys and looking for some pokey! lol

My lil tires are swimming in the wheel well...lol.

    I'm exaggerating of course. lol

    I wouldn't mind doing a 270/70 since I don't have mud guards anymore.

Maybe dropping down to a 16 wheel with the same offset?

    So many options! lol

This without doing a lift...but maybe new UCAs?
