So ive owned my tacoma for a little over 3 years now. Ive already bought a new set of tires for it and purchased the same size of tires as the ones that came with the truck which was 265/70/R16. I have all terrain tires as opposed to the highway tires that came with it, if that matters at all. But ive been looking at a leveling kit and some new rims to really get it looking the way ive been wanting. Ive been looking at 16 inch rims this whole time but for the hell of it I just went ahead and measured my current wheels and found out that they are 17 inches wide from one complete end of the wheel to the other. I was under the impression that my tires would be a little stressed by this and also assumed that firestone wouldve said something about it when I bought the tires and had them do the installation. Does the tire say it is an R16?

Ive never really done research, but maybe the actual diameter it refers to is NOT the one you are measuring?

Um no! Wheel width is not based on outer diameter measurements....

Inside measurements. Or just look in the backside if your wheels, it's marked for you.

AH ok thanks. Cause when I first saw this I googled it to see if i was even measuring it right and a couple sources said this was the way you were supposed to do it. Thanks that clears it up for me.

You're measuring wrong. You need to measure the bead seats not the lip. Those are 16" wheels.

The rim width is measured from the inside of the lip, not the outer edge like you are measuring.
