So on a 3rd gen w/CMC running 16" x 8" 0 offset, with 1" lift in the front, any worries running 255/85's? Running stock UCA's as well, don't know if they would rub them or not, but I'm regearing to 4.88's so I'd like to give this size a shot. Just wish there were some C load options!

I contacted falken asking them if they had any plans on making 255/85/16 all terrains. I’ve also contacted general but haven’t heard anything back. Anyways, 255/85s could be a possibility in the next gen at4w. Would be a good time to reach out and let your voices be heard!

That's pretty awesome they got back with you... I messaged a local place that sells remoulded tires and asked if they had 255/85s and they said no, and I asked if I could bring my old set and have them remold them... They said no again lol. I assume they don't make the tires on sight. I'll probably wind up putting 265/75 on that set of wheels. Remolds apparently run a little tall anyway but $525 for a set for my hunting season tires is hard to pass up

For pavement, would the Toyo MT be about the best overall?

    That's dope that they replied.

I'm in the same boat here realizing just how many more mud-terrain options there are in 255/85/r16 compared with all-terrain options. It's really just the Cooper ST Maxx available in A/T, and they are not cheap ($332.99 at both Walmart and Tirerack). Even the BFGoodrich KM3 is a few bucks cheaper.

Still not sure whether I'll regret going with a mud tire on a commuter/daily truck that's sometimes used for off-road. The ST Maxx feels like a safer bet, but they're so spendy and likely a less-capable tire than the Wildpeaks, KM3s, Geolandars, etc. Hmmm

I do believe at this point that 255/85/r16 is the optimal tire size for a stock TRD OR Tacoma.

I just got mine a couple days ago (geo mt). I have .7" lift in front, stock Rear. I had to trim some plastic but I'm not touching my cab mount at all. 16x8 0mm

Awesome, congrats! Any pics? I am currently stuck between deciding on 255/85/16 Yokohama Geolandar MT or 255/80/17 Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx. The wheel I want (Enkei Cyclone) comes in both 16" or 17" at 0mm, so it's just a matter of deciding which tire :annoyed:

There are more 17" tire options for sure, but I like the looks and extra bit of sidewall since I bought the truck to offroad and explore. I have the new style 6112s at notch 7/5 good for .7" but I've sagged some(about .25 in front and about .5 in back) with my full steel armor and some recovery gear in the bed, getting coach shims and an AAL pack next month to get a little more lift back. Feel free to ask any questions, I've learned a lot here in the last year or so. The geos look awesome, looking forward to getting them dirty this weekend. I have my grinder in the truck in case it still rubs when I'm stuffing it...

I agree, I would prefer more sidewall, even if it just 1/2". How do the geos handle on road so far?

I noticed the 15lb per tire difference a bit, but the skinnys do a great job of tracking and don't seem to wander as much as my 265/75s. The old ones were SL though so that could have been a contributing factor. Mileage is about the same as long as I keep my foot out of it and drive a bit more conservative. We've had a ton of rain here since I got them and they have been fine. I will see how the life cycle goes, and I may buy then again unless I have any issues with them down the road.

17" wheels would be better if you ever want to get bigger brakes

Here is my 22 taco with 6212/5160, 1.5” lift in front only, stock height on the rears. No rubbing that I can tell so far, no off roading yet, so we’ll see when it flexes. The tires are Falken M/T01 255/85/16, and I’m running them at 36 cold psi. I used the online calculator mentioned in this thread for the psi difference from stock tire.

Thanks, I'm loving the setup! And yes, pakrax sliders. Very stout with the square inner tubing. I checked out the other AZ shops but the pakrax were very affordable and look great. Haven't scraped them yet but my rci Skid plates are getting good use on the AZ trails.

I like them so far. Yes, they are a bit louder, but I expected that for a mud tire, and the price was good vs the competition ($250. per tire). I really like the fact that you can put a real 33" tire without a lift if needed. I really like the Yokohama M/T's look, but they were a bit more expensive ($320. per tire), so I went with the cheaper tire in this size, although the Falken M/T is highly regarded as one of the more durable tires in this category.
