    Hi All,

I'm going to be getting new tires soon and I'm pretty dialed in on the Cooper STT Max in 255/85/16. My truck is a 2017 DCSB OR 6MT, all stock.

Ive read all 150ish pages of the 255 thread and the one thing that's missing is a long term review. Most of the posts are from folks who just got the tires and have very few miles on them. I would love to hear from people who have run this tire size for a while. Would you go with 255's again? If not, why? What (if any) were the downsides of these tires?

Why not post this in the 255 thread?

It devolved into a physics dick waving contest.

Are you looking for a long term review of Max’s or of 255/85R16s? Cause I’ve put 10’s of thousands of miles on 2 sets between my Jeep and my Tacoma and I can 100% tell you I would never buy any other tire and that it is the best all around tire I’ve ever used.

I like my coopers. Have about 18,000 miles on them and rotate them with every oil change. They are quieter than most of the "Offroad " tires I have had or ridden in. I think you will like them. I did take my mud flaps off as the left front would just barely rub in a hard left turn when going over or hitting an obstacle. I would buy them again.

I have 16k on mine. Have been really impressed on everything except wet pavement where that's are average for an AT or MT. Did ok in deep snow, good in mud, and great on rocks. I will most likely stay 255. If Cooper releases the Evolution MT or STT Pro in 255s, I may move to a full MT, but these have been great and I will probably buy them again next.

I went from E rated 265 75 r16 duratracs to E rated 255 85 16 BFG KM3’s and I regret it. Better looks / off road performance is the only positive of the larger tire. I’ve got 31k on my 255-85’s so far.

    for negatives
    - heavier - truck feels more sluggish
    - the mud terrain sucks for towing, wanders a lot unless aired way up.
    - longevity - I’m only gonna get 35-40k out of these. I got 90k out of my duratracs.
    - price - cost more than 265-75 comparable tire

I really wanted those tires for my taco. Last time i checked, they only do 265/70/17 in e load, if im not mistaken. I want c load this time. Probably will have to go with good ol bfgs.

I guess that's a priority thing. Those are big Pros for me. If the tire won't take me where I want to go, I don't care what it does on the highway.

I have 45k+ miles on 255/80/17s and I am very happy with them. Not loud on the road, excellent off-road performance. As a guestimate I believe there's 3/8" - 1/2" of tread remaining.
