2500 miles, 1 month to fix coolant leak.

Checked the engine the other day and noticed what seems to be a slow drip out of the coolant pipes. 2500 miles so far. Brought it to the dealer and they performed a pressure test to confirm the leak, caused by "manufacturing/assembly error, the contact between the pipe and rubber not properly sealing."

Apparently they brought in a "Toyota field engineer" to take a look and verify the parts needed for replacement.
Delivery will take anywhere between 2.5 weeks to a month...

I was told the parts needed for replacement are somewhere down the already congested production line. Similar to how the owners with the grill shutter problem have to wait for their parts. A little disappointed but I know it's just bad luck. They stuck me in a 2024 Nissan Frontier rental and after 2 days of driving I hate it lol.

 

so up to a months just for radiator hose? Or an aluminum piping into the water pump?

Piping?

Take that Nissan and beat the tarnation outta that thing!

 

The frontier feels more comparable to the 3rd gen tacoma, engine and interior. 4th gen engine is more responsive and feels more powerful, also surprisingly I prefer the feel of toyota's drive by wire system vs nissan's power steering feels very heavy. (I'm probably bias)

I'm assuming it's the whole assembly as it was leaking from multiple connections.

 

Hose clamp failure. Shouldn't be happening to any new vehicle. They would have no issues if they used the clamp below, but it's too much labor to twist a wrench or turn a screwdriver. Wonder if Toyo's quality control is faltering in Mexico.

 

These clamps are FAR worse long term than the powered crimper style clamps.

 

Someone probably put the hose clamp in the wrong spot. There is not too much engineering with the coolant system. Maybe they can snag parts from a new truck on the lot .

Been using them for 50 years with no issues.

 

Bullshit that you’ve never had them leak. They do so FAR more than the crimp or full round spring style. Yes, you can fix those leaks rather easily (until you overtighten and ruin the hose over time), but it’s absolute nonsense to say you’ve never had a problem. Fixing frequent leaks, even if easy, isn’t what OEMs would put up with.

If you’ve never tightened one to stop a leak, you haven’t used many over those 50 years.

 

Me neither. I used to intentionally collect them on junkyard picking days and swap them onto my vehicles everytime I serviced something that let me remove a factory clamp.
