EDITED 12/16/23 with new curb info from C&D Test of '24 TRD-OR Auto:
First time I saw a clear curb figure, in this case of 4794 lb for TRD-OR, DCSB, Auto.
    Source: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a46148551/2024-toyota-tacoma-vs-old-test-results-compared/

Here is the information I was able to discover in the published owners manual:
    Owner manual here: https://www.toyota.com/owners/warranty-owners-manuals/
Relevant data is on page 613 (payload) and 665 (GAWR/GVWR)
Curb data is from C&D article above for the Auto, estimated for MT

    upload_2023-12-16_16-10-57.png

While I aim at staying within GVWR (and missed by a mile in my 3rd gen), the much higher GAWR is very good news for me (I am especially overloaded now in front with bumper/skids/winch/long-ranger tank).

    A few thoughts:
    - EDITED - payload now seems to be ~1450 lb. Getting closer to the magical 1700 lb
    - Front axle GAWR is 540 higher than Gen 3....maybe to support the heavier iForceMax drivetrain
    - Rear GAWR is practically same as Gen 3
    - Payload will be reduced by options....my 3rd gen also had close to 1200 lb payload "spec" but in practice, after options, 990 lb.

is that curb weight calculated? I dont see that published anywhere in the pdf. Its funny, i cant seem to find that spec anywhere (like the exact weight of TRD OR DC 4x4 for example), only some vague range on google. Feels like Toyota doesnt want people to see that number, likely because the hundreds of extra pounds this thing packed on aint gonna look good with the modest bump in power.

    @Stitz,
    Sorry for lack of clarity:
    - Your are right, the curb was calculated from GVWR and payload.
    - I am sure the curb will be higher than the number above with added options (meaning payload will go down)
    - And, the second set of numbers in the table are for the manual transmission, the first for auto.

I am hoping (but not holding my breath) that the Trailhunter will have higher payload, as this stated so by many reviewers - 1700 lb was mentioned in the spring. But I am totally ready to be disappointed.

Am I reading the Owner's Manual Correct? Looks like a TRD-Offroad (Double-Cab, 4WD Long or Short Bed) will have somewhere between a 1200-1270# payload?

Nice, an extra 45lbs vs. 2023.

Edit: that table can't be correct. Curb Weight on the TRD OR is 4700, not 5000+

Where's the #1700 payload I was promised on the OR?

from Toyota press release in May:

"Maximum towing capacity for Tacoma is rated at 6,500 lbs. on SR5 i-FORCE and TRD PreRunner XtraCab grades, and maximum payload increases to 1,709 lbs. on TRD Off-Road."

Now it looks like the TH will have it? Was a nice dream while it lasted I guess.

You are right - Corrected above - I calculated the curb from GVWR less Payload - no curb figures I could find in the manual. I substituted now in the table the curb numbers from C&D test drive.

That's the payload? What about increasing it for all of those mall enthusiasts with their roof top tents? Truck has less payload than a current 4Runner still.

I think they are playing games with whether or not you have passengers in the truck. That 1200lbs number is "vehcicle capacity weight" which Toyota defines as total load plus 150lbs x seating capacity, so 5 in double cab. You take all passengers out and voila, thats an extra 600lbs capacity. Doesnt exactly tie out to the 1700lbs number but thats gotta be what they are doing. Max capacity of 1700lbs IF you drive alone, go on a diet, dont wear heavy boots, etc.

Interesting catch. This actually puts payload really high though, that's actually 750lbs of passengers. 1950lb Payload? And the hybrids will have payloads closer to 1700, which would give Tacoma an astonishing 2450lb capacity total.

Is this a typo? Those are Hilux kinds of payloads.

This thread on another forum has some interesting insights. Someone found a review by Car and Driver where they mentioned the curb weight of the Tacoma they were reviewing and using the numbers in the manual, figured out what the actual payload is.

Well you need someone to drive it so you can't add back the full 750lbs capacity for 5 people.

Now hear me out.... what if I attach a side car to the truck and drive it from there?

I like it. Either that or just push your max payload downhill to the required destination

Incredibly frustrating that Toyota seems to be hiding the ball on this. Why don't the brochures have the Curb Weight or GVWR, broken down my model? The '23 brochures include that info.

Good idea. Or you could tie it to the tow hooks and...wait...never mind.

The product info guide has it broken down by configuration, not trim level. And there is a range provided. It would still be a range and not an exact number if broken down by trim.
