I have 235/85 siped because it is my work truck. I get roughly two years out of a set then give them away to someone who gets a few summer months use from them.

If I want working in the bush, I'd run a real winter tire half the year.

TRD: Lift, Exhaust, Air Intake, Skid Plate & "Beadlock" wheels. Batman sticker. 255/85R16 Toyo MTs. Debadged. H9s.
Stock offset is 30 mm for the Sport (and I think the SR) and 25 mm for the Off Road. I went to a 10 mm offset with the TRD beadlocks, and the outer face of the new tire winds up exactly in the same place as stock OR. ( 265 mm - 235 mm = 30 mm....30 mm divided by 2 is 15 mm, and the delta on the wheels' offsets is 25 - 10 = 15 mm..there you go)

You could go to a 4 mm offset like the "new" TRD wheels, and that would put it a smidgen (6 mm) further outboard than stock.

Great tool for checking this here:

After reading all the positive feedback, I think I will go with this size on my truck, 235/85/16. It is an 05 sr5 4x4 2.7 4cyl 5sp manual. Most of my driving is highway, however I do venture off road occasionally and winters in Ky. can be rough some years. I am a veteran and an employee at the VA hospital in Louisville. I am able to get a discount on select Goodyear and Bridgestone/Firestone tires. There are 6 choices available in this size. I would appreciate opinions on which to go with. Thanks

    1. Firestone Transforce HT2 $173.00
    2. Firestone Transforce AT2 $204.00
    3. Firestone Destination X/T $199.00
    4. Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac $209.99
    5. Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse AT $169.99
    6. Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse HT $159.99

Duratracs are the only one I have experience with and if most of your driving is highway with the occasional dirt road, they probably aren't the best for you. They are great if you spend a lot of time off road though.

In a 10-ply? I *think* that’s going to be the Toyo AT3. But I’m sure if I’m wrong someone out there will correct me.

    @PTSDTherapy Toyo's A/T3 is 44lbs, Cooper's AT3 LT is 42lbs. Firestone Destination X/T is 40lbs. All are a load range E 10 ply. 235/85R-16. Hope this helps.

Anyone go from 265/75/16 to 235/85/16's, i was thinking about making the change would go from my cooper at3 4s weight is 41lbs, with the little 2.7 i have in the truck i wonder if the rolling resistance difference from the skinnier tire would be felt

I run 235/85/16 Duratrac E rated. I believe they are 51lbs. A 32" tire, slightly skinnier than stock, readily available size and doesn't tax the crappy gearing on our trucks. I ran that size for nearly 10 years on my 2nd gen and the dealer swap them onto my '21 OR when I bought it new.

I would run a lighter cooper or firestone xt around that 39-42lbs so it will be almost the same weight just a more narrow tire over the 265/75/16. Wonder if anyone went from 1 size to the other either way and was able to feel the difference. I have better gearing over the 6 with 4.30's but 100 less pony's so any change i can make helps i think the 235 might be the way to go.

Another lighter weight option is the Nokian Outpost AT in LT235/85r16 at a weight of just a tick over 40lbs. I mounted up a set of 5 a few months ago and have been very impressed with the performance in snow in particular. Still trying various inflation PSI as the charts based on load have them at 46psi and the chalk test at 34psi which is causing some feathering on edges.

@michaman The Firestone Destination X/T would be a good option.
They are one of the lightest options for a LT 235/85R16 at around 39 lbs, which will be good for highway driving and fuel efficiency, but they are also 3 peak snowflake rated for winter driving.

@Nyrob How’d you go with this? They seem to be on sale for around $140 at the moment

I did not the weight on them was more than what I wanted at 44.1. I am going to change to Firestone XTs keeping my eye on them to drop in price. The Nokias would add 3lbs per tire over my current vs the Firestone would be 2lbs less

Hopefully there’s some good sales with EOFY
The Firestone XTs sound like a great tire too. It will be interesting how they compare to the Cooper AT3s.

Loving the XTs so far. Wet rains are awesome. Can't wait for some snow to try them out on.
