Has anyone installed 235/80R17 on SEMA Wheels AND kept the mud flaps with no rubbing?

When I bought my truck, it had these wheels on it, paired with 265/70R17 (31.6") BFG KO2s. They would minorly rub the mud flaps on sharp turns at speed or when hitting a minor bump while turning (driveway, side street, etc.) It was not a big deal but was enough to annoy me. My fix for this was downsizing to 265/65R17, which is the stock size and has no rubbing issues. However, I'd like to step back up to the larger size, and I'm curious if the narrower width will fix the rubbing issue. But....I would like to confirm that before I go and spend all the money on the tires.

If I had stock Sport or OR rims, I imagine I would have no trouble at all due to the greater offset bringing the wheels inward. I like the Semas and I'm okay with them, but I won't delete the mud flaps and I want to run the larger tires. I don't want to add lift. I just want the larger tires with no rubbing the flaps.

Do you mean 255/80R17? Seems most enjoy this size and report no rubbing. 235/80R17 would be 31.8x9.3 whereas 255/80/17 is 33x10. Do you have any lift?

No, I meant 235/80R17. I want to be in the 1" larger than stock range. No lift and I won't be lifting it.

A good alignment shop can align that out.

You don’t need a lift to run 255/80/17, just don’t run negative offset wheels. +4 seems to be the sweet spot.

Have you looked in other threads on this yet? That is an obscure size so I would imagine many have not ran it before. I also may be incorrect, but I heard this size is E rated only so will also be heavier. Here is a comment I found on another thread when I used the search function.

Don't you have a few inches of lift?

I have SEMA wheels with KO2 265/70/r17 and had some slight rubbing with the stock mudflaps. I switched to Rokblokz and cut off the section for oversized wheels and have had no issues since.

I don't have negative offset wheels, I have the +4 semas. 265/70R17 would kiss the mud flaps on turns, trying to make sure a 235 in the same overall diameter will not.

I’m almost certain all 255/80/17s are E rated as well. They are meant to go in the back of dually trucks.

Yes, done tons of searching. Not a bunch of info floating around here. I've found a few 235 users here and there but not with the rims I have. Unfortunately, that guy whose comment you posted does not have a 3rd gen, which I would think makes a difference. He does have aftermarket wheels with almost assuredly less offset than stock, so that might help my case.

Yes, it is E rated only.

I don't know about the 255s but 235s are all E rated. I don't really care about that, their weight is not bad due to being skinny and they don't ride too rough if you put the right air pressure in them.

Same deal. I put on some Rek Gen flaps but I didn't like them. Would prefer to keep the stockers. They hang lower and to me look better. I drive on nasty job sites every day so I highly prefer the rigid mud flaps for that purpose.

Probably, by messing with the caster I'd assume, but I am hesitant to touch the alignment on a stock truck that handles to my liking.

I have also considered 255/75R17 which is basically a 32", but that one definitely has reports of rubbing on stock suspension with these wheels.

I've been through a good portion of that thread. Still have not found anybody on stock suspension, WITH stock mud flaps that didn't rub. It's either one or the other, but I haven't found anybody with both stock suspension and flaps and been able to clear a 255/80/17 on turns.

I run 235 85 16s toyo AT3s in a E rated tire they have been great I do have about 1.5 inches of lift in the front with the stock mud flaps. Every now and then on hard turns the tire will catch the edge of the flap and pop a little bit it startles me everytime. It happens so rarely I don't worry about it.

Not "messing" with anything, but aligning it correctly to stop the "annoying" rub. Mine had that done and has no issues at all.
