Does anyone have pictures or experience with 235/70R15? Not many options in this size but the Kumho Crugen HT51's are cheap and 3PMSF.

The truck isn't my daily driver, I run long distances on weekends and tow a small boat/utility trailer periodically.

Going from stock size(215/70R15) to 225/70R15 was noticible when on stock rims but going down 9lbs a wheel with aluminum rims helped a lot. I just don't want to completely kill the trucks gearing but the wide tires look good.

    Any insight would be great.

I have been running 235/75/R15 Michelins on my 2006 4X2 Access Cab for over 150K. They look great and the ride is much better than stock. I run 30 psi and I got 80,000 miles off my last set of tires. The tires are rated for 2271 lbs.
By the way, the 15" alloy rims off a 2004 Toyota Avalon have the identical specifications as the OE Tacoma rims. They also look better than any after market rims I could find.

Good to hear of some positive long term experience with plus sized tires. I just find that, even with the aluminum rims and only 225/70R15's, the gearing feels stressed in situations like heavy loaded, boat ramp, slow speed off road and towing.

Did you end up having to do an alignment when you jumped up so far in size?

These are 235 75 15s. No lift, no rubbing, and huge improvement over stock both in fide and looks. These wheels are only 17 lbs. I just ordered a ReadyLift 2 3/4 leveling kit with and add a leaf.

This is my winter setup, 235-75-15 Wrangler Trailrunners on factory steelies. Did a quick Krylon spray bomb treatment.

This size tire is a great improvement over the stock size in terms of ride and handling. But there a slight penalty in performance. However with the MT one can compensate a bit.

Here is what I have been running the rest of the year, Nokian Entyre 2.0, which I think are discontinued. The photo is 215-70-16 on some late 90's Cherokee wheels. Excellent tire that wear like iron. These have 68k on them with 3/32 remaining. Superb dry traction even now. Wet traction was very good until about 55k, has steadily been declining. I have a set of Nokian One HT to replace them. They are 245-70-16.

We recently put on some BFG Trail-Terrain T/A tires in 235/75/R15 in time for a trip to Death Valley and they worked like a dream supporting some of the truck's first serious offroading in years. (PSA: always remember to air down before putting your cool tires on the spiky rocks.) Costco wouldn't put on upsized tires, but the Big O Tires near us was fine doing it. (I had a very "I have researched this obsessively on forums" kind of demeanor, which I think put them at ease.)

The 2.4L struggles with hill climbing in any situation, so this didn't make it any better, but it's not like it's adding a new flaw.

    Thanks for the pictures guys!

@Homeline I thought I was the only one out there running 90's Jeep wheels on my truck - guess not. Looks good. I'll take compromise in offset between stock and the D-Window steelies for the weight savings.

My truck has the 3.31 rear end (manual tranny) so it can't really handle an increase in tire size like the 3.58 (auto tranny) can. I've managed to find a 3.58 and 3.73 but I'm not sure which one to go with.

@TheBigKahuna @tmors424 What fuel economy are you guys getting with the 235/75R15's on stock steelies? Your final drive ratio, assuming you have the automatic tranny, is now basically what the manual tranny tacoma with stock wheel size came with. Also, did you need an alignment when you went up to that size?

MGM, I too have a MT. The Jeep wheels have about a +25mm off-set. Puts the current tires just about even with fenders. Getting about 23mpg highway.

Getting the 245-70-16 mounted this week. I know full well mileage will drop, how much remains unknown.

Since I have decided to keep this truck, I may investigate a regear to 3.73 or 4.10's.

Since dealer did an recent alignment with the new frame, with the 235-75-16's, I don't anticipate needing one for the larger tires.

Just took my new Michelin 31/10.5/15 (rear) off to see if mileage improves. Didn't get rid old old 235/75/15 (front) tires/rims yet so I threw them back on. Last check 16.8, mpg with 31s. Hoping to see closer to 18mpg with the 235s.
With inaccurate scale, Aluminum rims with 31s weighed 64.5 pounds. Steel rims with 235s weighed 50 pounds.

I just went from 215/70r14 to 235/75r15 and my 96 2.4 auto pulls them fine, took a small hit in power and speedo reads 45 when doing 50. Totally changed the ride on the washboard roads i drive on, not perfect, just better. The set came off a 97 jeep cherokee. Could use an 1 lift in the front but i am happy for

Tacoma 2012 Base 2.7: Firestone Destination A/T 2: P235/75R15 on the stock steel rims. No lift/leveling, everything is stock. It's a much better ride - softer, better control. Did not feel much performance/acceleration degradation. The only negative is that it feels like I need to apply slightly more pressure on the brakes to have the same effect. Overall - very happy :)
