I currently have stock 18" wheels with 265/60/R18 and was going to go with the TRD Pro wheels with 17" wheels as a compromise between 18" and 16".

According to a poster in this thread I can go to 17 inch wheels as long as I increase the aspect of the tire to compensate for the size. In this case, 265/65/R17 Can anyone confirm this is correct?

I am a complete noob Tacoma/truck owner and know nothing about what wheels or tires would be best. I do plan on getting studded tires in the winter as I live in a hilly area that gets both snow and ice.

    Some background info:

I bought a '23 Limited, mainly for the interior options that I wanted, and did not think I would be doing any off-roading. However, after a couple camping trips decided that I would be doing more off-roading than anticipated. Not to mention, overlanding on some roads in Alaska might as well be off-roading.

The 3rd gen TRD Pro comes with 16” wheels. In any case, the 16, 17, and 18” 3rd gen Tacoma wheels are interchangeable as long as you choose 16”, 17”, 18” tires that match Toyota specs. You can also push things outside of spec a bit without having to modify anything. There are a million threads on here about tire fitment.

Down there at the bottom of the page is a tire calculator.. click on it and you'll be able to determine what size tire to put on the different size rim to maintain the same "size" that you currently have.

A lot of us run the 4Runner wheels. They look good and your tire selection at 17" is more vast than at 16." The only thing to be aware of is that they are slightly narrower wheels, 7.0" vs most Tacoma trims being 7.5" That will still fit a wide size range of tires (including being very comfortable at stock width) - however I personally recommend not going with the fatboy sizes of 285 and beyond. Those 4R wheels are happy at 235-265 section widths.

That is good to know. I'm hoping to get the same benefit from coming down from 18" wheels.
