Hello all you people smarter than me.....I cant seem to wrap my head around tires sizes....like at all.

I have 4 studded snow tires that are practically new. They came off my old Jeep Cherokee and are 225/75r15 load designation 102s. Before I try to sell them or whatever I'd like to know if they'll fit on my 2003 tacoma TrD off road (extended/quad cab if that makes a difference) it currently has 265/70r16 tires on it. If I remember correctly the last number is the rim size so if I have a 16 inch rim then my 15 inch diameter Snow tires won't fit, right? Or is my logic flawed?

I am almost 100% positive that you have it correct. The last number is rim diameter/size, so a 15 inch tire will not go on a 16 inch rim.

Check out the tire size calculator at the bottom of this page, it explains all the tire info and lets your compare sizes.

Those are pretty tiny tires anyway, and not worth trying to fit on your Taco.

There are a lot of people who have converted to 15" rims on their 4x4's, but the rims will be VERY close to the brake caliper, and might actually rub, requiring some grinding on the calipers to make them fit. The main reason, as far as I know, is that standard 15" tires can be cheaper than the metric 16" sizes (but not by all that much).

If you're going to have a set of studs, I would HIGHLY suggest just having a complete set, rims and all. It will make the switch SO much easier, and you won't have to take them in to be mounted/balanced every time.

So, since you'd need to get new wheels anyway, just get a cheap set of steel 16" rims, sell those cute little 225's and get some new studded tires as close to the 265/70R16's you have now.

You should have a label in the driver door jam saying what came from the factory. Try to go back to that.

Thanks everyone! Yeah those studs were from my Jeep. I have stock size Cooper discoverer at3 tires on my Tacoma and I'll probably just use those this winter and get studs next winter.
