    22 Tacoma TRD Off Road
Hey all. New to the group. Just took delivery of my 22 Tacoma TRD off road with A six speed, a big upgrade from my 09 SR5 with 232k miles! I have no review as I have less than 100 miles on the truck. But I can say not much has changed in 12 years to include the key. Are the new Tacoma’s not a standard push to start? I could care less was just surprised that I have basically the same key my 09 had. Is push to start not standard with the TRD off road trim, or does it have something to do with the Manual transmission (I’d assume not my 6 speed mustang is push to start).

Only manuals, SRs and sr5s come with the actual key. Your manual has clutch start cancel button, pretty sure it works better with a key set up.

Nope, no Tacoma Manual has push to start. Manual transmission automatically equals a physical key. Automatics get the push to start.

Yeah, forgot about them. I've never actually seen a 3rd gen SR in Canada, and I've only seen 3-4 sr5s. Seems like they're all TRDS.

No push to start. But you can bump/push start it. And your key won't be having any dead battery issues.:rasta:

When I got my 6MT TRD OR I became irrationally excited when I realized I got a physical key and no push to start as that was what I was expecting. The dealership said all MTs get a key.

I’m ok with a key (prefer one) I just wish Toyota would have changed the horrible key I had on my old taco. Fold into the key fob would be great, A separate key/fob is fine. I hate keys I have my car key and house key That’s it, the Toyota keys are very cheaply made and end up bending from being in my pocket, had to get 3 new keys for my 09, Toyota replaced 2 of them as it was a manufacturer defect, but I guess the last time was my fault.

MT and it's physical key is cool and all but being able to unlock/lock with the touch of a finger is dope.

Running joke with my buds who have MT's.

I'm pretty sure you can get a plain key (like a base Corrola has) and pull the key out of the fob. I'm thinking about doing this as I don't like the bulk.

yeah I had a spare “just key” like the one you showed on my old truck. It was like $15 from the dealership ended up being the key I paid for when the other one broke (again). But my 1996 Honda Accord had a key like that and separate key fob, this is a 2022 truck…..

I like having the actual key but hate not having a flip out key. My old Jetta key was the best.

I wish the Meso fob was the answer but I just can't get over the price and the reviews.

Yes, but you can remove the key from the fob and have them separate. Are transfer the fobs internals to this, https://www.ajtdesign-llc.com/onlin...undra-2016-Tacoma-Manual-SR5-BLACK-p112268011

Did you miss the part about the clutch start cancel? This is why you get no pushbutton, so you can bump start your yruck.
