Pretty impressive numbers coming out of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma! This is the non-hybrid turbo four cylinder i-Force engine. This new engine is putting down slightly better horsepower but way more torque than the 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma, which is what the majority of us need. The added torque will come in handy when larger tires go on these trucks.

I'm curious to know what the tuning possibilities will be. But of course understanding the stock blocks threshold is going to be key... some of us aren't trying to make monster numbers, but be nice to know that a simple tune and a few supporting mods could really enhance the capabilities of the non hybrid motors.

I totally agree. From what I hear, we should be able to tune them a little down the road. We will for sure make a video on it once that becomes available.

Here is the video of the 4G vs 3G Tacoma:

That TQ difference will make the truck drive so much better.

Having 60-70 more hp in the range below 3500rpm will make highway towing SO much better

    3500 is still high.
Still having to kick the 4cyl to 4k for max power. But I guess that's ok now.

Below. Look at the HP even at 2000, although it’s hard to find dynos like that

It’s not always about max power. Power available at more “usable” revs is VASTLY higher in the 4cyl

    I'm sure it is.
Chart doesn't even go to 2000.

Yeah, it’s hard to find dynos down there because shit gets noisy and peak number are all that matters online.

look how many here don’t understand how torque and power work, nor what “under the curve” means to the driving experience

It makes peak tq at 1700 not 3500. Chassis dynos don't work that low. If they did it would be even worse for the 3.5.

Admittedly I don't know shit about dynos, but even I can tell that anything below around 3500 rpm on that graph is not reflecting reality.

Did the napkin math and yeah you're pretty damn close. Looks like there should be about a 50 hp advantage at 3500 rpm.

Other dynos of the highlander 2.4t that do go a bit lower show something like 40-60hp between low 2000s and 3000ish. I don’t imagine the Tacoma tune is worse than the Highlander for low end torque

Maybe I need some help reading this chart then.
    I see "Max Torque = 306.87 at Engine RPM = 3.98"

So you are saying torque for the non-hybrid is max at 1700 rpm then falls to about 60 at 2500 rpm ?
