    Hello,

Long time forum viewer and finally decided to create an account due to my frustration with Toyota.

    Long story:
I owned a 2022 Tesla Model S (dream car/loved it) but wanted a truck for commute/winter/personal needs. I traded in the Tesla for the Tacoma in a different city (best trade in value/difference for truck). I drove it for 1 week when it started making weird noises. I took it straight to the Toyota dealership in my neighborhood. They told me during PDI (pre-delivery inspection) the dealership I purchased it from missed to see if there was a front shock top hat missing/failure.

Dealership kept putting blame on dealership I purchased from and refused to give me a rental. The out of town dealership I purchased from said I should get a rental and covered under warranty. Finally, going through Toyota Canada it took me 3 days to get a rental and them to admit it is a warranty fix/covered.

Now, it has been a month (30 days!) and I call the dealership once a week and they keep telling me there is no eta on this part.. I have been driving around in a Malibu rental(!!) and the truck is parked in their lot. I have driven my rental way longer than I’ve owned the truck. I keep being told there is a parts shortage and back order on all new Toyota parts.

I feel defeated that a truck I purchased brand new has been in the dealership lot. Is there anything I can do to rectify this?

    thanks

Does Canada have a lemon law? The 30 days may trigger a buy back

I did bring up the lemon law and they said it is for a part and nothing is wrong with vehicle/just a part shortage.

Canada does not have a lemon law unfortunately that is black/white on this type of situation. I have started calling my case manager at Toyota Canada again asking for more information but have not received a call back.

I would harass them and make them
Give you a part off a new truck and make them wait for the parts shortage. Sorry about your issue. That is super frustrating!

    Either

    1. Continue to drive the Malibu on Toyota's dime.

    2. Get the truck back and upgrade your problem away with better front shocks.

Should have just bought a Malibu GM has discounts on them in the US. Is buying or owning a Toyota in Canada as much work as it seems to be from some of the posts I see?

I would buy the aftermarket kit and have them install it. Or if they aren't willing, take it to another shop and be done with the dealership...

^The Icon kit doesn't work if the top hat already broke/popped out.

OP, is your top hat already broken? As others have said, get them to take one off a new truck on the lot and put it on yours...

this is still speculation... what is weird noises? and who when doing a PDI when the truck has 2 miles on it looks for broken strut mounts?????. they didnt tell him what they found/ what part was ordered? OP really doesnt care to actualy know? its your truck go to the dealer and have them point out what they found!! also its YOUR truck. take it to another dealer for a second opinion. they want their loaner car give it back to them then.

appreciate the responses. Top hat is already broken. Truck has about 1500KM on it when I went over a normal bump on my way home from work.. Truck started making grinding noises on driver side.. when I took it into dealership they showed that the top hatch was popped up and it was not drivable anymore.

I should have added pics but here they are:

first one is passenger side/how it is suppose to be. Other picture is driver side.

I have been speaking to Toyota Canada. The part is back ordered apparently Toyota wide with the shortage. Toyota Canada advised all dealerships are the same.

Dealership assumes the part cover was never on and when I went over a bump that was the aftermath. Their other assumption was it broke off. Regardless, I was told warranty issue and something that could have been spotted during Pdi (I assume they were trying to deleverage the blame).

I’m in Calgary, picked up Tacoma in Edmonton as it was the only hybrid off road I found.

haha owned Tesla for 3 years..

Not a single maintenance done other than seasonal tire changeover. So this Tacoma being in the shop for a month might be karma for the care free maintenance life I had.
