I’ve been around the block in regards to the car industry.
As ive stated ive been a master certified engine performance / engine repair tech for Ford for 30+ years....
Ive been involved in pretty much aspects of dealer operations in one way or another over the years.
Not liking where the ford products have been going mechanically over the years I figured for my retirement vehicle toyota which was very costly as far as im concerned was my choice...
I knew they lacked paint quality, thickness, but NEVER fathomed this...
    Im sick to my stomach....
I did look-over 2 other white trucks on the lot & didnt see these defects...

So 2 faults riddled through my truck:
1- they paint over heavy debris.
2- they painted over contaminants causing "fish eyes" low spots which equates to thin painted areas. Looks like an air bubble that popped is how I would explain / describe it....
I did not see any of these defects at first and I know what to look for.
Lighting needs to be right and the delivery area for my dealership They’re pretty much have no overhead artifical lighting except for natural light at the opening to the covered delivery garage area…
where Only light is at the entry points.
I’m just saying, be careful and look your Tacoma over carefully before pulling the trigger on your allocated vehicle or any vehicle on the lot.
You want to look it over really well under artificial light not bright sunlight.

No more modifications for me at this point, going to hold off and fight with Toyota and try to get a vehicle that wasn’t painted on Friday in the middle of a desert during a sand storm…
    :mad::(:angrygirl:

Multiple panels need to be repainted as color sanding won’t resolve the issue per dealer body shop inspections & service manager…
1 panel has already been color sanded which pretty much thins out the clearcoat on a brand new vehicle.....
& theres still additional debris in that panel, driver side rear door.
    I’m bummed more than anything.

When Toyota ran south of the border they said Mexican QC would be the same as in the US!

That’s a lotta trash in the paint.

My 2019, despite an average thickness of 3.0 mils, has none of that.

I agree on lighting for detail work. A good detail shop with proper lighting will make flaws stand out.

    Keep us posted.

That is just despicable. It should be embarrassing to Toyota that they let a vehicle go with so many paint defects.

Wow at first I was like... 1 minor issue no big deal... then I saw the other 50 pics... Jesus that's bad :( sorry you have to go through this... Can you return the vehicle with the dealer or toyota corp? I would likely start a case considering how pervasively bad this is. It seems like short of an entire repaint it won't be right.

What is the build date for your truck, my white TRD Off Road just came in yesterday and will be going to pick it up after PDI is done.I'm going to get them to put it inside and inspect the paint. That is very unfortunate,I hope Toyota will get you a new truck. How long after getting the truck did you notice all the issues.

Did you have to sign paperwork that you were happy with the condition of the truck?

They wanted to reduce labor cost so here we are.

Toyota's cost of labor went down but the price of their trucks went up.

Holy... no thanks! I would never accept a new truck in this condition. Looks like it was ran through a car wash with sand in the brushes.

I'm sure the dealership will say this is normal...lol. White Toyotas always seem to have something going on with the paint.

Yea, on my 2016 the paint just started flaking off. Haven’t noticed anything on my 24 though.

i took delivery on march 28th. noticed the first 3 blems on the rear driver door which they color sanded. The body shop paint tech found 6 in that door. Theres actually still more in that door...
It took about 1 month for me to see them, on white in daylight its hard to see....
Angles need to be right due to bright glare...
Im going to try my hardest to get a replacement, whatever it takes...Mods will have to wait....

Hate that for you OP. Toyota paint has had issues for years; clear coat failures on newer vehicles and the notorious white paint peeling. Looks like the problems continue. I anticipated issues with the new model but these paint defects signify greater QC problems. I ended up moving up to a GMC and am hoping the reliability is half as good as my last Tacoma. They should be buying your truck back though based on those defects. Best of luck.

Dealer service manager has been great along with my writer, as theyre aware of my background...
They didnt paint the truck, its out of their hands...
Theyre thoroughly making the appropriate documentation for me...
I have the 2 ac concerns documented also....
Doing my DD, LL attorney or directly through Toyota, waiting for some calls....
Theres no cooloff period & im not doing myself any favors by trading it in....
