the 4th gen already comes from factory with cold air intake.. the desert air intake/or the factory which gets air from front of bumper. also you could have an air filter the size of a trash can but if that air has to get crammed down into the size of a soda can it really doesn't matter...

I'm not going to debate people on a forum who are just passive aggressively fishing for arguments, go research it yourself.

Not to mention the guy was just praising banks for their aftermarket parts, not even realizing they make the same intake/exh/tuning parts for gas engines...

Well I'm sorry you feel that way. I was asking because you seemed to be a source of knowledge on a matter I wanted to know more about. I have no argument to make as I don't know enough on the topic to make one, nor do I wish to be in an argument. But apparently I was wrong and according to your response I should seek out the mouth breathing, crayon drooling, Krystal Klear Krylon huffers over on Reddit because they know more than you do. Thanks for your time, I'm headed over there now. I'll let you know what I find so next time some one asks out of genuine interest you can can be of some minimal form of value added benefit to the planet and maybe start offsetting the oxygen you are consuming.

We only know what we have had exposure to. And I've only had exposure to their Diesel line. I knew back in the early 2000's they toyed with Petrol engines but I never saw it take off. Doing a quick search I have discovered that indeed they make nothing for the Tacoma. I shopped a few other vehicles too - Colorado, Ranger, Alpha Romeo. Nada. I'm sure if I search long enough I'll find a generic remote engine oil cooler that could be mounted on a 74 Volkswagen Bug with an adapter kit but I'm not looking to spend that much time to prove a point. Banks focuses on Diesels.

Looks like they only things that they make for the Tacoma is a gift card and a baseball hat. So there is that. I guess you were right.

Neither of us said they made parts for the Tacoma. I never even said that an intake would increase power, I just said it wouldn’t necessarily counteract it since it depends on the tuning and if and how it responds to increased airflow.

but this took less than 3 minutes to find and was literally on the first page

How’s the SXTH intake? Forgot about that one. Been eyeing the AFE or KN with tax season coming up

Well I am a huge AFE fan have always put their panel filters in my rigs. Was going to buy the AFE intake. I am extremely happy with these SXTH Element products easiest one I have ever installed. Would highly recommend. The sounds it makes are worth the few 100 bucks

Since they just want to spend time being difficult, I'll spend the couple minutes it takes to explain it:

The engine system's only got so much overhead and so much tolerance for deviating from the norm. If you allow a larger mass of air in, the computer needs to be able to detect it. That means the MAF sensor needs to be able to read that high. Which it very likely can. Probably. Maybe not, but it's unlikely it's sized that close to the expected airflow rate. Assuming it can detect more air, that means if that air actually gets into the engine — turbo's between the intake and the manifold, and the wastegate and bypass valves control how much air makes it up there — that the ECU is willing to inject more fuel to keep the mixture in the target range. Which it probably will. It might get upset that the intake air mass/unit time measurement is larger than it expects and trigger a check engine light or even limp mode, or run strangely. If it is willing to hold the injectors open longer, it'll try. If the injectors can stay open longer. Which they probably can. It's unlikely that they're sized so that they can't run any longer duty cycle than for stock power.

So, in short, the computer probably will compensate. Will it make more power? Maybe. Probably not. Stock intakes are usually very well designed nowadays. People buy cars based on horsepower numbers in magazines. They can't afford to leave much power on the table. Their competitors aren't.

Honestly, if it does make any difference, it'll be in how the turbo spools. If you're lucky, it'll spin up a little quicker and you'll have a little less time reaching boost threshold, so it'll feel like it comes on power faster. You might interpret the better throttle response as "more power," though it'd probably be more accurate to describe it as "drives better."

Entirely realistically, it won't make the tiniest bit of quantitative performance difference. Well, you'll be faster because a few hundred dollars in cash has weight and you're no longer hauling that around. Seriously, though, it'll make cooler noises. Cool noises matter in cars.

Get a new intake if it makes you happy.

I'll take cool sounds. I have blown more money and gotten less for it before.

Stillen is working to release their airbox soon. That will remove most restrictions.
