2024 Tacoma Engine failure

Hi everyone ! Sadly the 2024 TRD OFF ROAD took a dump today 1,700 miles easy driving and was towing a 500 lb aluminum boat to Woodward reservoir in Modesto California. Got unusual noise coming from the engine bay and sudden power loss ! Was able to park on the side and temperature raised on coolant ! Had to tow it back to dealership Toyota of Stockton and engine is toasted. Crankcase split without warning. I am now without a vehicle and forced to work on the 2009 Prius. I was told that they have another 2 Tacomas there waiting for a new engine. Completely disappointed I should have kept the 2012

 

The dealer didn't give you a loaner?

 

they don’t have any ! Lots of Tundras down too !

 

My dealer has a batphone right to Enterprise lol.

Sorry to hear about your engine. Also wondering if the two other Tacomas waiting for new engines had similar failure as yours.

 

Off subject here, but I'm a little confused. You say you traded in a 2012 for a 2024, right? But your avatar is a 3rd gen?

 

That's a bummer man. I hate car troubles. That's why we bought Toyotas... oh, wait... Hope they get you back riding soon.

Yikes, this is not looking good. First all the tundra engine issues now this. Just read about the failing manual transmissions thinking at least it's not the motor. Maybe there will be deals even on the Pros.

where the pics? your brand new truck blew up and you didnt take any pics?

 

I am not calling bullshit on this but I find it hard to believe there are now 3 failed engines at the same dealer but I haven't seen anything on other forums about this.

 

How do you propose he takes pictures of an internal engine failure?

 

I mean personally I would of have pictures/video of it on the side of the road and being loaded onto a tow truck so i could brag on the forums and get 3rd gen clout...

 

I hope trucks aren't blowing up. The 2.4 is supposed to be Toyota tested and approved in other vehicles, I wonder if Toyota could put two 4cyl together and build a 4.8 V8. Keep both turbos if need be.

going to need to deal with probably underpaid, under trained dealer mechanics on a new truck swapping in your new motor. I'd get out of it as fast as humanly possible

 

Hard to tell if it's part of a trend or not but if blocks are being milled the same way as the Tundra 3.4, then there could a lot of problems for Toyota.
