    Good day all,
I've put a deposit on a '24 Sport + and was excited to be taking delivery of a Tacoma.

Owned a 2020 and traded it in on my current Tundra. Love the Tundra after the Elka suspension mods and few other goodies. I realize my Tundra is probably one of the most reliable trucks in existence and the reason for parting with it is overall fuel economy and longer term resale value.
Can't really justify requiring a full size and my resale value is still very good.

Took a 2024 Tacoma Sport Premium for a drive 2 months ago and was impressed with everything about the truck.
It actually felt more like a full size compared to the last generation.
Ride, handling, comfort, and power considering the motor size. It checks all the boxes as I generally will never tow over 5000lbs and my boat is 3000lbs.

Would't touch a 2024 Tundra as the design is terrible IMHO and according to my Toyota master mechanic who is also the previouse Tundra owner and fan said he'd avoid until they worked out a few issues.
Have about 2 months until delivery of the truck (4dr, 6'bed, Underground grey Sport +) and a refundable deposit if required.

Starting to have second thoughts due to the reports of transmission issues.
Does anyone on here have concrete information with regards to the new 8sp trans having issues??
I'm mechanically inclined and have always done most of my own upgrades, performance mods, and maintenance so online reports without substantial evidence are taken with a grain of salt.

    Thanks for any feedback.

At this point it is anyones guess...could be nothing...could be something just like the Tundra. Your going to get responses on both ends of the spectrum....Some of those same answers you could almost copy and paste and were repeated when the first issues with the Tundra popped up. Some say it was nothing, and ridiculed those that said...maybe I'll take a wait see approach....now a recall of basically the first 2 years of production.

Toyota traditionally has VERY reliable and trouble free transmissions....the fact that the first issues on the new redesign showing up is a transmission issue...would make me pause and take a wait and see.

Keep in mind there are 80-90,000 Tacomas on the road, most with auto trannies. Probably half the transmission issues are posted on this forum, so not many.

I don’t know if it’s a Aisin trans but Toyota rarely screws up a transmission design.
They should have used the ZF8hp trans. Possibly the best 8 speed in the world, proven and shifts amazing.

My 2024 tranny shifts amazing, unlike my 2016, which was always hunting back and forth for the right gear.

I’m sure it does! There’s nothing wrong with that 3rd gen trans, they just did a terrible job of programming it.

Part of the problem was it was only a six-speed.

Its like using Dr Google to diagnose yourself. "Abdominal pain."

Well guess what, now you're convinced you have ulcerative colitis, pancreatic cancer, crohn's, an ectopic pregnancy, and an appendicitis.

Or you just need to have a good poo.

No issues with my transmission, shifts great and even if there ends up being an issue warranty will replace it. I’m sure Toyota is working on a tsb to address the problems we are hearing about . I wouldn’t worry about it at all honestly

Don't use "Dr Google" as suggested and been involved with maintenance and repairs on motors and equipment for over 40 yrs...
It's a straightforward question about a reported potential issue on a new platform.
Could be nothing or the opposite and obviously hard to know with so few miles on these trucks.

Thanks to all for the 1st hand reports

Plenty of guys at 10000 miles already without issues, not to say that you or I won’t have issues but it’s not like every 4th gen has a bad transmission, more likely there was a batch of bad parts . Nothing really suprises me anymore after covid

13 to be exact. Let’s all hand wring about 13 reports out of over 60k sold. % not even in the margin of error.

    • Some 2024 Toyota Tacoma owners are reporting transmission failures to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Emphasis on the word SOME NOT "a total of 13 to be exact"

This isn't the total. Only the ones reported to the NHTSA... Doesnt include ones in forums, or ones being dealt with by Toyota themselves.

How many owners go as far as reporting it to the NHTSA vs ones that just report it to the dealer? 1%, 10%, ?% You can pretty well guess that the ones reported to only the dealer are orders of magnitude greater.

And a member here was mentioned

    https://www.thedrive.com/news/2024-toyota-tacoma-owners-keep-reporting-transmission-failures

TacomaWorld forum member Fostuhh has a particularly frustrating story. They say they ordered their dream Tacoma TRD Pro shortly after the truck was announced and traveled to a Northern California dealer from Arizona to pick it up. Not too far into the long drive home, they experienced heartbreak when the transmission failed with just 342 miles on the clock. After much back-and-forth communication between dealerships, Toyota agreed to replace the transmission under warranty. Still, this hasn’t inspired confidence in other customers.

Just like any new car or truck. You get the few issues that are blown up on a forum. The majority have not had issues and are out enjoying their new truck. If you are that worried wait a year on the sideline and see. Happens with every new release.

I’m checking Toyotas technical services bulletin(tsb) daily at work for one to come out addressing the automatic transmissions. Already a tsb for the Manuel trans. I’ll keep everyone posted if the YouTubers don’t get to it first.
