New to the forum. What are the key differences between SR5 and TRD Sport in the 2024? Both would be 4*4, 5ft bed. I can't seem to find consistent information on vehicles specs. Specifically, I'm wondering about performance and drive. So Horsepower, Torque, Payload (towing capacity appears to be the same), suspension, not sure what the other points of comparison would be

This would be my first Tacoma. I have an outback and love it but getting a second vehicle and want a pick up for a variety of reasons, including camping.

Go to https://pressroom.toyota.com/vehicle/2024-toyota-tacoma/ and download the PRODUCT SPECS .pdf file. You’ll have to study it some.

I had seen that comparison chart but it doesn't really get down in the details. My biggest question is whether the ride of the Sport would be noticeably smoother than the SR5. It appears there are some slight difference in the suspension, but I don't know enough of the mechanics to know how significant it is. Thanks for the Spec sheet. The dealerships I visited didn't seem to know that existed.

The Sport has historically been firmer. Unknown on the 2024 if that is still true. Probably need to check youtubers and see if someone did that compare.

do you think the sr5 ride is noticeably worse than off-road or sport?

I’m not sure I would characterize it that way. Not enough to worry about buying one trim over the other. Suspensions and shocks are easily changed.

But, Toyota has already made a lot of choices for you. Pick carefully.

Ride quality is notoriously subjective, So no one can answer that for you. Sport is firmer than sr5. I like a firm ride for better cornering, my dad drives slow in the corners and prefers smooth as possible. So you tell us, which one is better or worse?

All makes sense, right now I have an SR5 reserved. A base Sport is a ~2K more, wheels are nice, but there is something to be said about not needing the Sport or buying it just to buy it. Coming from 2010 Outback so anything will be great for the next 10 years. Thanks for your feedback.

With Generation 2 and 3 you could spend several hundred bucks an upgrade any of the trims. Generation 4 has leaf springs for some trims and coil springs for others.

So in Gen 4 it's not quite as simple to upgrade the SR to match the ride of the Offroad or Pro.

I had both a SR5 and OR 3rd gen, I personal prefer the softer OR suspension. I dont remember exactly but I somewhat remember reading that the sr5 and sport have pretty much the same feeling suspension.

I would assume its probably somewhat the same in 2024s

You are comparing 4x2 SR5 to 4x4 Off Road.

I know this thread is a couple months old but I will try this here. I am currently going back and forth between a TRD Sport or SR5 with SR5 upgrade package.

For anyone that has either trim, I am currently deciding on either a TRD Sport w/14" screen(in Hawaii all the TRD sport/OR come with that screen vs mainland) or an SR5 with the SR5 upgrade package. Both vehicles are within $30 of each other just that the SR5 with that package has rear window, wireless charger, front and rear sensors vs just rear parking sensor, JBL sound w/ speaker, etc.

Those are the main things added so I am really torn as I really like the aesthetic look of the sport, but a couple added features are in the SR5. For anyone that has wireless charging is it really even usable or just a glorified phone heater like many in the past. Only other thing that might be different is TRD sport with the sport tuned suspension having a different feeling ride but during a short test drive wasn't able to tell much of a difference?

I went with the SR5 as I couldn't tell a difference in ride quality on my test drives between the TRD Sport and SR5, and wanted the least expensive version that got me the JBL sound system and the integrated brake controller. I know some have criticized the wireless charger, but it works good for me. Nice to just drop the phone on the charging pad and not need to plug it in each time. Its a small convenience I found more useful after I had it and used it.
