    It was not.

Very straight forward. It would have been very easy with a second person to hold the bolts in place, thankfully I have long arms.

Page 10: Step (o) should really be on page 9 as part of Step (j)

Go clue why they had the latch adjustment instructions separate from when you adjust the latches.

I bought the cover as well and intend to do a self install as soon as the weather breaks here. (Been cold and windy lately.) Thanks for the instructions! Unless I missed something they don't mention anything about installing the prop rods ??? Did you have any issues removing the T30 Torx bolts holding the bed rails in place?

Here's a video that helps a bit. (Stand by on your "Pause" button!):

Yeah the prop rods just click in when needed but are absent from the instructions. No issues with the bed rails.

I got my tonneau cover installation completed yesterday, took me about 2.5 hours end-to-end; I did it alone. I'm sure a competent mechanic could have it done in half that time, and if I were to do it again it would go a lot faster. The instructions were clear and complete enough that I didn't make any mistakes. The only tools I needed were an impact driver with a T30 Torx bit, a ratchet with a 13mm socket, and a #2 phillips screwdriver. (I don't have torque drivers to turn fasteners to a spec., for better or worse. For non-critical work I use the "TFAR" method - That Feels About Right! Where meeting a torque spec. is more important, I let a professional do it. In this case, the torque specs. were just "recommended".)

Here are some some things I encountered, for any of you who might want to undertake the installation yourselves:

    1) In addition to the four T30 Torx bolts holding each stock cargo rail in place, there's a plastic "pin" (not sure what to call it) in each rail. Those pins have to be removed before re-installing the rails onto the "S" clamps or else they'll interfer with the installation. I just inserted them back into their holes in the bedsides.
    2) The drain tubes are larger in diameter than the holes in the composite bed, so I had to drill the holes out a bit for the tubes to fit.
    3) With the tri-fold assembly pushed all the way forward as required for the tailgate to close, when raised the assembly rubs against the bottom of the camera housing at the top of cab. I don't see a way to avoid that in my installation, YMMV.
    4) I'm very glad I installed a bed step prior to installing the cover! I must have climbed in/out of that bed a dozen times or more while installing the cover and with my age and short stature, that would have been difficult without the step. So if you have any inkling of adding a bed step, install it first!

Overall I'm pleased with the quality and appearance of the OEM tonneau cover, and the installation process was reasonable. The dealer estimated 2 hours labor to do it so I probably saved myself $200 or so by DIY. The cover was expensive enough, more than twice the price of some after market alternatives I saw.

    Cheers...!

Did you have to remove the front bed rail or could you leave it on?

    Thanx

How much did you pay for the cover and are you able to drive with it open or does it have to be closed when moving?

$868 during an online sale+the dealers default online discount.

You can leave it open in every configuration of the tri fold including fully open. It has latches for each to keep it secure.

For what it's worth, I did diagonal cuts on the drain tubing where they go through the bottom of the bed drain holes and it fit through waaayyyy easier with the diagonal cuts than it did with the square cuts the tubing comes with. I don't think it's that the tubing is larger in diameter, I think they are just literally perfectly the same size as the hole and the tubing flexes / deforms when you try to shove it through with the square cut ends.

D'uuhhh! Wish I had thought of that! I ended up drilling out those 2 holes a scosch. Since it's a composite bed I figured there would be no rust issue. Mine has the spray-in liner so maybe my holes were a bit smaller as a result?

Yeah the spray-in liner does actually make the holes a tad smaller, it's listed as a conflicting option on the Toyota install instructions for the tonneau cover.
