So my 2023 trd off road was hit, which had the manual transmission. Even if fixable, I'm not keeping the truck as nothing ever fixed right. I'm positive frame or rear axle bent.

Anyway, I'll be honest, I don't want a 2024 with the turbo 4, and now I'm hearing of manual transmission problems. Can people with 2024 manual transmissions list their mileage of truck and any issues?
    Thanks

If damaged, why wouldn't they be fixed correctly?

Me thinks you've just never experienced the joy of a good shop.

I'm very anal about my vehicles. It's only new once. Bent frame, rear axle, and all the body work with paint will equal never again new. Just body work I'd probably keep it.

I can tell you this: you DO want the turbo 4-cylinder. Just go test drive one; you’ll get it.

As long as you take care of maintenance and you don’t floor the accelerator every time you use it, the turbo should last as long as you’re likely to own the truck.

To early to tell if the turbo will fail in the long run …test drive one for yourself see if u like it .otherwise u can shop around and try to find a low milage 3rd gen .

This is the same engine that has been failing in the lexus and other toyotas, correct? Why any difference in a tacoma? I usually don't drive my vehicles hard, and definitely not until fully warmed up.

Anyway, no one has a manual transmission to post mileage and any issues?

I don’t know what you’re talking about as far as engines failing in other Lexuses and Toyotas. It is in a few vehicles but I haven’t heard of failing engines.

The manual transmission had a problem where some wouldn’t engage 2/4/6. They found damaged shifter housings on them. A TSB has been issued for replacement of transmission. There are not any other known failures. The transmission is a hodgepodge of parts from the 3rd gen and the Hilux transmissions. There is very little to be concerned about as basically none of it is truly new in design.

I’d much rather have a 4th gen than my 3rd.

Pretty sure he’s referencing issues with Tundra and Lexus engines, not Tacomas.

I wondered that, but wanted to assume not since the V35A and T24A are nowhere close to the same motor. But probably.

If you don’t want the 2.4 turbo, then the trans is a moot point ?

Well i was hoping to get a better feeling, but not one person has actually responded to my original inquiry. Miles on a 2024 with a manual transmission, and issues if any

I posted about the one known problem with that transmission. Nobody has complained about any problems besides the 2/4/6 issue which has been fixed. Again, it is a hybrid built from existing parts that came from other similar applications. The wheel isn’t reinvented with this transmission, so there is little to fail.

The “op” seems to already have a solid opinion on the 2024. Why ask, as far as MT owners commenting , somtimes it takes more then a 3 hour window to give you answer your looking for, if your so negative about the 2024 then go find somthing else, i dont think anybody cares if you buy a 3rd or 4th generation truck.
Coming out saying you dont want a turbo 4 cyl motor answers your own question……move on buy what meets your needs, no reason to jump on and start flaming the new truck that many new owners are very happy with

I really don't think I flamed the 2024, just stated I really don't want one but hoping to be swayed with some data.

I've probably driven more miles and longer than you, and I've only been in toyotas my entire life. I'm positive I'm a bigger toyota fan than you, know more history regarding toyota than you, and wouldn't consider another brand ever. My dog, a wonderful chocolate lab, is named Cruiser, after the Land Cruiser, of which I've owned too many to count ranging from 1972 to 1994. Fj40s, fj60s, fj62s, fzj80s. No fj80, not my thing and i saw inadequacies. I had a 91 pickup i drove for 300k. A 2007 tundra for 231k. Please don't say I am a toyota basher, I'm not.

The 4th generation has been out for all of 15 minutes, my man. If you’re looking for someone who can say, “Got 100,000 miles on it and everything is holding up fine,” check back in 5 years.

Toyota builds good cars. There’s no reason to extrapolate a few failures to a problem with the entire population of 4th gen Tacomas. If you’re not comfortable giving the engine the benefit of the doubt, grab another 3rd gen.

Listen to me, I have a 2024 manual 4x4 double cab SR that I have put 12k miles on since March of this year. The power of the truck, especially when towing, is night and day better than my previous 3rd gen’s. Zero complaints or issues with truck other then the lack of sliding rear window on my SR.

Buy a base SR 4wd manual. I paid 38,700 for my truck. About 2k more than what a 2023 4wd v6 SR would have cost, so the price increase isn’t crazy substantial for what you get in the new platform.

I've had to replace my transmission weekly since buying the truck in May. You should buy a Nissan Frontier with an automatic.
