    Icon 58680 (coilovers)

I caved and ended up getting them. CSP Racing is legit. My order arrived the next day and shipping was free with no tax.

Got rear shocks to match (56518) looks like they have already raised the price on those but got them for ($189.95/ea)

The TRD Off Road suspension in these new trucks is way too soft. Even unloaded. When loaded, good luck

have all 2023 and 24 f150s, rams and silverados right here. all use shock mounted bump stops.

I have a 23 F-150 and couldn't recall where the front bumps were located. I thought they were mounted on the shock shaft under the top hat. Same as the Bronco shocks below
    [IMG]

I can't recall if the Tacoma shock has that bumpstop in the same location. I thought the bump stop on the 4G was inside the shock tube it self? There was reference to the internal bump zone with the 4G offroad shocks.

I'm under the impression there is no exteral bump stop between the shaft and tophat of the 4G offroad shock.

I'm not sure why Toyota thought Tacoma buyers wanted a front suspension design that's shared by the domestic 1/2 ton manufacturers.

I was thinking of the older trucks say 2010 and older. I don't really work on brand new domestic trucks.

I wonder why they would all go from one design to the next. Cost savings? Can't be for durability.

the bump stop is mounted externally on the shock shaft itself in same location as the picture referenced. the "internal bump zone" is not a bump stop. its an area in the stroke where compression valving is firmer than the rest. it starts when the piston passes the piggyback reservoir mounted near the bottom of shock body. up until that point the fluid displaced by the shock shaft would flow into the reservoir without going through the shim stack.

most likely cost savings yea. no need to design and engineer the frame and lower control arm to accept a bump stop. doesnt have be designed as strong either. since lca bump stops are usually mounted so far inward they are under a mind blowing amount of force when used because of all the leverage.

personally i am not against the shaft mounted bump stops. every dedicated offroad vehicle sold including side by sides have them. most passenger vehicles now including half ton pickups and oddball models like raptor and trx. even on these 4th gen tacomas the bump stop setup itself is not the issue and is completely unrelated to the top hat failure. seen multiple posts and videos still blaming the bumps like some gx460 dude on youtube that needs to go back to physics class lol.

im not sure why toyota designed the top hat like they did. what exact is holding the top part in that holds the rubber isolator? is it just pressed in or something

Ford needs to take notes from Toyota on where to cheap out on. I'd rather have a busted top hat than a broken tie rod, amirite?

JK... Toyota needs to get this part fixed. Can't imagine what looks to be a cast piece has the strength to take hits even as well as a flat piece of stamped steel.

If anyone wants my pair of Icon top plate reinforcements, ill ship them for $50 to your door.

I used them for one tank of gas then ended up buying coilovers.

I still don't know why Toyota is using a shock mounted bump stomp on the Tacoma when all of the other GAF trucks are using frame mounted stops.

Is Toyota beta testing these shocks and the shaft mounted bump stop? Maybe to see if Toyota wants to use that design on the Hilux?

Some things just shouldn't be subject to cost cutting. Look at how beefy these stops were on older Toyota/Lexus models:

Still not convinced frame bump stops are not cheaper. Dirt simple. From scratch new frame, LCAs anyway. Versus bump stop shocks/top hats that have to undergo design, testing, and more costly supply side management. Naw, Toyota was chasing that articulation their enthusiasts want.

^But articulation is a good thing :notsure:

FYI the Land Cruiser has frame-mounted bumpstops, because the Land Cruiser shocks aren't as fancy.

What would you like to know?

I’ve only driven it around the block a couple times. Felt very good. Not too stiff and very planted. I’m wait to get alignment Wednesday morning.

Pain in the culo to install them.

Stock suspension was way too soft and bottomed out a lot.

Icon top plate reinforcement installed. Top plate bolt torque is 33 ft.-lbs. but you can't fit a torque wrench in there.
