As if TRD Pros can be purchased at MSRP every single day. Shit normal Off Roads have addendums on them too.

the Toyota dealership here sells everything at MSRP, whether they can actually get you the Tacoma you want thats another issue.
My wife has a 2016 Ford Edge, she bought it new and it hasn't had a single issue other than one TPMS battery needing swapping out.
The Ranger Raptor does look good but Tacomas will always win with all the aftermarket support for parts.

I wish Toyota and other Asian manufacturers would adopt the US and European way of ordering. I would gladly buy local but if it takes 14 months to get a truck in no way. Also I prefer the a la carte way of spec’ing trucks. If someone wants premium audio they shouldn’t be forced into a $3,000 package to get it.

I never understood why all the fancy off-road chicanery needs to be bundled with luxury interior features. My 2013 trail 4Runner was not like that.

The most off-road capable model should not be the most expensive or at least you should be able to order all the off-road stuff without all the luxury interior shit.

for sure, if I was ordering a new offroad, I want the base model, nothing else added, but its a challenge to get them to bring in one with nothing added.

    Agreed

But that is higher profit margins. The guy buying a raptor is buying a raptor regardless, if it was offered with fewer options he might actually buy the lower optioned truck instead and they would make less money. Same as mandatory dealer installed options, its just done before it gets to the dealer.

Toyota has a long history of changing their minds whether or not they should offer off-road performance with bullshit luxury features.

I think $35,000 is the most I’d pay for a pick up truck at this point and Toyota does not offer any of that performance for that price point.

Yeah the best you’re doing now is about $38.5 OTD for a stripper stick trdor.

The new Ranger has 48" between the wheel wells. A sheet of plywood or drywall will now fit.
Will the new Tacoma have the same useful feature? But the Ranger is now very close in size to full size of 40 years ago.

That Raptor Ranger is nice for sure. The interior is world's better than the new Tundra and likely (Tacoma's) and lines are not ridiculous like the teaser we got, just still a Ford, sorry I know I know. Thanks as always for your insight here. Is a good time to be a mid size truck buyer (besides price).

It’s still small, old ladies drive full size Dodges here in the city. If someone thinks the 5 foot box Ranger or Tacoma is to big to drive in the city that’s probably a sign you didn’t grow up a country kid.

Yep I grew out of the Tacoma and got an F150. I can tell you its not too bad in the city but there is a big difference in maneuverability. I hated to let the Tacoma go. Almost 12 years and 106k trouble free miles and it rode so nice with the upgrades I put on it. The F150 interior is light years ahead but again my Taco was a 2011 lol. I wanted to buy a Tundra but the dealers around here just turned me off with all the shenanigans (Markups and add ons galore). Got a CPO F150 the way I wanted it XLT, S Crew. FX4. 3.5 EB, 11k Tow pkg. That motor is a power house but gets the same MPG that my Tacoma got in normal driving. The 10 speed took some time to adapt to it but I like it now. It has full manual mode if you need it and tow/haul and sport modes are fun when you want to use the lower gears for power. It has that in spades.

Agree 100%. wife currently has a 2013 Trail. Options/features it has are fitting and what I would expect from a “Trail” edition without the unnecessary luxury.

I'm definitely looking to swap to Ranger Raptor. Sure $60k for a mid size truck is not ideal but I still want a small-ish size truck with loads of torque and power. Ranger Raptor is the only one that provides that. Plus body on fully boxed frame, front and rear locking differentials, long travel suspension from factory, on and on and on. 33" tires from factory, sure is not 35's but knowing Toyota, it will have a 31" tire and if you want 33's, you'll have to start cutting the frame right away.

As much as I have high hopes for the new Tacoma, I know Toyota and how conservative they are, the new Taco is going to be a small improvement over current Taco but light years behind the Raptor.

When they first come out? A LOT Depending on the dealer and area 10 to 20K if not more. 75 to 80k for a Ranger? Bronco Raptors are more than that around here.

Greedy ass ford dealers still want 10k+ markups on broncos. You should see some of the conversations I had with them while looking.

I have a reservation on a Bronco Wildtrak @ MSRP. Since build is still constrained and manufacturing date is unknown I asked my dealer about getting a Ranger Raptor reservation as well. I’d take the first one that actually gets built.

They let me know the Ranger Raptor will have ADM, how much is yet to be determined. The expect demand to greatly exceed supply so it will be significant.

I passed on getting on the RR list.

Looks like a great truck. We will see yet this week how the next gen Tacoma TRD Pro stacks up against it.

+1 Comment. If the 4G Tacoma TRD Pro is not competitive capability I’ll be really disappointed in Toyota.

It’s pretty easy to see the kit Ford has been building and now has at their disposal on the Ranger platform. Between the Ranger, the Bronco, the International Ranger Raptor, the Bronco Raptor they have - Triple locked diffs, 7-speed manual/10-speed auto, good crawl ratios, 33’s easily and even has variants with 35’s/37’s without cutting, 3 different turbo motors, an automatic transfer case option.

And yes, payload capacity that lets you use the bed and fill the seats it with people.

I really hope Toyota brings their A-game and didn’t aim short.

While I have a Bronco Wildtrack on order I’d also be interested in the next generation 4Runner/Lexus GX (just released first teaser). But, I’m interested IF they are competitive from the factory and actually available. If not, hopefully the Bronco will be here yet this year.

I'm staying with old trucks. Trucks today cost more that what I paid for my 200 acres.
