These auto journalist press junket first drive reviews will be nothing but glowing, regardless of the vehicle. I'm sure they were gung-ho over the Mistubishi Mirage when it first came out....

The first honest review will come from someone who spent their own hard earned cash to buy one.

1st class plane tickets and luxury 5 star hotel resorts do seem to sway their opinions a little, lol.

Haha no doubt about that. Short of Savage Geese I wouldn't take anything too seriously, but it will be nice to see these things rolling. It is one step closer to prices at least? Hopefully.

Yes, driving impressions and reviews will be available as soon as next week. The real prize is official pricing is also expected to be released next week, barring any curveballs from Toyota.

No such thing as objective automotive journalism. Not long ago, a successful new release required the auto co’s to seek the blessings of a handful of expert opinions. And if C&D or R&T honestly said that your car sucked, well good luck.

Post auto-mag armageddon, we now get opinions from an army of sad YouTube clowns who are invited to events that are painstakingly choreographed by the automakers themselves.

And if you dare criticize the new Tacoma, your invitation to the 4R reveal will be deleted, and so on…Better yet, put a “TRD” or “Toyota” in your handle, and fly first class. Seriously, watching a “Toyota Jeff” video is only beneficial if used as a laxative.

Yet another reason to drive it yourself before buying it, and share your objective opinions, good or bad, right here.

I used to read car driver before I could drive way back when in the early 1990s.

All you had to do to make the top of their list would be have a manual transmission and sporty handling, even if the car failed at everything else like cargo space, backseat passenger comfort, and price point.

Then Honda wrote them a big fat check and the Accord was always on every single one of their fucking lists despite being the total antithesis of being a driver’s car.

True, really won’t know until six months or a year of ownership either. Have to tun it through a bunch of scenarios and give it some time to really know.

Hope they fixed the glove box, my 3G’s likes to dump everything out every time I go to toss my service receipts in the there, why isn’t it angled downwards?

Fairly certain the 4G will drive like a scaled down Tundra, those drive fairly nice.

Highly doubt first drives from all involved are going to be anything but stellar. Not like Toyota designed an uninspiring dud off the lot. This thing is going to shred.

Watch it be only hybrid trucks which won't be available for another 6+ months.

While I am perfectly fine with the current V6, think the new T4 is going to be a vast improvement, actually have some bottom end torque. Should really help with the erratic-ness of the current trans while loaded down.

Was laughed at years ago for suggesting that the Tacoma needs a coil sprung rear. That new Tundra rides awfully nice, expect the Tacoma to be the same. Hardest decision is to which one to buy. Almost came home with a Tundra a month ago, told myself I need to drive the Tacoma first.

They need a grumpy SOB like myself to do the test drives who doesn’t give two shits about link clicks. lol!

The shift to Youtuber reviews means that you as the consumer has to vet the source you are going to. Someone just starting out will say anything to make sure they get invited back. But there are plenty of reviewers that do give objective criticism. For example I was watching reviews on the Mazda CX-90 as a possible replacement for the wifes car. Savage Geese was pretty brutal in their review. They spent 25+ minutes with the design team talking about Mazda's design philosophy then got in the car and essentially said none of that works in a 3 row SUV and the car feels half baked. Their review concluded that you should buy a Highlander or Pilot. I also listen to The Smoking Tire a lot and Matt has touched on the subject of objectivity and keeping yourself in the good graces of manufacturers. His comments have been that as long as he gives criticism in a fair and honest manor, manufacturers are OK with his reviews not being a fluff piece.

    Good to know.

It’s a Toyota, they all virtually have the same ergonomics, have been driving them for 30+ years. Any model I drive (car or truck) the seating position/controls are usually in the same place, my hands fall naturally in place. Probably why I tend to feel lost in other manufacturers vehicles.

They make changes so slowly the subtle changes are better, but never glaring. Sure the 4G will be better, but still feel like a Toyota.

Same, broker had the color and trim at 4.5k off + his reasonable fee, but wanted to see how the Taco hashes out. Time to pause since this is a want, not a need. Also I’m still betting small on 2024 becoming a buyers market.

All depends on which travel trailer the better half wants. Would like to stay small, sub 3500lbs.

Though with all the hype around the the 4G Taco, most likely get a better deal on a Tundra.
